First the USPP and now UPS. It seems that my block the transition point problem might be limited to organizations with those three letters. Who will be next? USPS?

It wasnt Mr Cannon with PUPS, the USPS or some cat adoption agency with PUSS!

It was the USPP for the win! Apparently competition brings out their inner reserves (and different police cars)

I could see it if it was VW Rabbits multiplying such a rate … but they’re no longer in production.

Beautiful morning for a ride. Although apparently so beautiful all the fair-weather riders were out in matching kit today too. 10min earlier to the monolith than yesterday but a count of about 75 greater than yesterday. At least everyone was pretty courteous today.

Yep, ton of unfamiliar faces on the MVT this morning. Only one incident of someone making a stupid pass coming toward me with a jogger, but the person looked like a very novice fair weather cyclist so I chalked it up to inexperience.

I’m hoping that my return route will grace me with some of these NW winds I encountered in the morining. Maybe make my journel to bocce by the Hill a no-pedal adventure.

I’ve heard there was a bicycle crash this morning in the intersection of Florida and Connecticut Ave, north of Dupont Circle. My informant said the female bicycle rider had managed to stand up but seemed disoriented. A couple of onlookers came to her aid. Apparently her helmet had come apart and she was trying to put the pieces back together as they stood in the intersection. Anyone have information on what happened?

The best part of returning from maternity is definitely the morning commute. Beautiful weather, (mostly) well-behaved trail users, a little schadenfreude passing a car collision at Lee and I-66, even ACPD at the IoD. Perfectly pleasant, except for running into Steve O…

(j/k I even enjoyed riding with Steve O down the hill).

My colleague found a bicycle computer speedometer lying on the street in DC this morning. He thinks he picked it up roughly at 15th St. NW and T. Did anyone lose a speedometer on their morning commute? You can reply to this thread or PM me with the specs, and we’ll figure out how I can get it to you. w&w

Pleasant morning ride. Flock of geese hanging out on the MVT at Gravelly Point but was able to ride through, slowly.

Dropped my water bottle twice – it’s the rubber one that Spokes Etc. sells. I learned to allow air to re-enter the bottle, otherwise the bottle holder won’t hold it.

Got to meet new people at Kindred coffee. Mute Swan hanging out in the channel while I was crossing the Roosevelt bridge.

I feel like I’m in the “honeymoon phase” of my new bike commute, but I’m enjoying every minute of it!

As I have now learned, the temperature in the morning in the summer is not very relevant. It is the dewpoint that hurts. Dewpoint of 74 this morning and was ringing wet after just two miles. So grateful for drier air on the way!

Left my house near Eastern Market and didn’t hit a light until 7th & Penn. Was feeling pretty good about that until a driver made an illegal U-Turn through a line of 5 cyclists on the 1400 block of Penn. He courteously slowed down and signaled his intent to do so, so we were all able to avoid being hit.

Later on, at M & Connecticut, an ambulance was coming south down Connecticut, just as our light turned green to cross. The cyclists were the only ones who waited for the ambulance to pass. Because we’re scofflaw like that.

Had a rather spectacular flat this morning on the Custis east of the two sisters. Good thing the shipment of new tires is in. Although I did have everything I needed to get rolling again, thanks to all who offered aid and comfort.

Commuted on my 1987 Cannondale converted to fixie this morning from Arlington to Reston. It’s only the second time I’ve ridden it other than tooling around the neighborhood. I’m fine at intersections–the scary part is when I subconsciously stop pedaling for a second to scratch an itch or whatever and almost get bucked off.

Yeah, but it’s a nice little wake-up boost on an early morning commute.
