ParticipantInteresting commute for me.
First I saw this guy on the Custis (dinged my bell before passing him)
http://www.arlnow.com/2015/08/06/man-with-confederate-flag-spotted-marching-down-lee-highway/Then about 30 seconds later at the entrance to the Marriott, a car coming out looked like it wasn’t stopping, and at the same time, a lady who had been walking on the right suddenly turned left there before the driveway. I skidded a bit to avoid her and she apologized profusely, although I should’ve dinged my bell earlier – I was too distracted by the car I think.
Then after I crossed Lynn St trying to make sure none of the cars were going to run me over (got cut off by one yesterday), I realized there was a situation where a cyclist had been hit by a contractor van, probably on a previous light cycle. It didn’t dawn on me until I’d passed as the cyclist was standing up and talking, and I only put the pieces together when I glanced back and saw the bike on the road (the van was stopped, so it had blocked my view of the bike).
Then I got held up on the TR bridge behind a lady riding in really short blue shorts. Actually they probably would’ve been fine for running but even with a casual upright riding position, it seemed like there was a lot of uncomfortable saddle contact.

I talked with the bicycle rider who was hit at the IoD this morning. I passed through at about 9:30…probably a bit later than you. There were multiple cops directing traffic around the accident scene on the north-east corner of the intersection. The rider seemed to be okay. He was relieved that he was pushed over rather than run over. I got the impression he was an experienced rider, and he said he had lots of photos. The front bumper of the van was all marked up from the impact. When I left the cops were directing the van off the road for further follow-up.

I was running late, so probably not much later. Glad to hear he’s okay. I really can’t stand that intersection.

ParticipantYou’re right. There are WAY too many crazy people who live near the East Falls Church metro station. Loonies, all of them.

Time to start dropping photos of ourselves having fun in the comments section of news stories about bad traffic/commutes.

And reminding them we had time for coffee while they were stuck in traffic.

My commute at Jefferson.
The single point where cyclists could come off the sidewalk at the east driveway (the ones with the Jersey barriers) was blocked by a USPP cruiser. The officer indicated that he had specifically parked there to prevent cyclists coming off the bridge from salmoning up East Basin Drive and getting up on the sidewalk at that point. I attempted (and failed) to help him understand that cyclists heading toward the bridge transitioned from the sidewalk around the Tidal Basin to the roadway at that point and he had blocked the only gap in the 13 (!) cones. He seemed unfazed.
Letters to the NPS are in my future.
My late morning commute from Thursday
Mr. Jefferson must have ordered some books from Amazon.
First the USPP and now UPS. It seems that my block the transition point problem might be limited to organizations with those three letters. Who will be next? USPS?
