Ha. I do have some tools now, but skill in diagnosing mysterious clicking sounds is not as easily acquired.
Ok, ok. But that’s where N+1 comes in. Especially when your next bike has no drivetrain ratcheting mechanism to go bad…

Yeah, well my N+1 bike (the one with no drivetrain ratcheting mechanism) was being ridden by my son. So I’ll just have to N+1 again. Again.

Note that N+1 has no terminal condition.
Except for s.

Pretty sure the freehub body needs servicing (this I found out after consulting with Jan at Bikenetic). I do have a cassette removal tool, but I decided to let the pros do this. It may even come under the free adjustments deal that came with the bike…
Yep, freehub serviced, hub bearings re-packed, new brake pads installed: paid only for pads–no labor! Bikenetic FTW (especially when you’ve purchased your bike there)! Also, thanks, Dirt for your work!

ParticipantSlow commute this morning. Lots of bike traffic and in several places, people kept thrusting free water bottles and bananas in my face.

GuestMe: hanging out on my bike at my scariest intersection, carefully positioning myself in the least-scary spot and waiting for a green light.
You: lady in car making left turn past me onto the road I was on. Rolled down your window and yelled “BIKE TO WORK DAY!” (or, possibly, “happy bike to work day”; the beginning was a bit unclear) while smiling and giving me a big thumbs up. There was no particular reason for you to do that, you were just being awesome to a stranger on a nice morning.
So, thanks, left turn lady! I hope you had an awesome day too, and got to do whatever makes you as happy as riding my bike made me this morning!

ParticipantSo, after a few days of enforced non-biking for family and work travel reasons, was able to commute again today.
It was supah. Happy Pete.

Indeed, it was almost enough to break my rule about singing non-show tunes. Then I remembered “Greased Lightning”, “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, and, of course, “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story. Happy day.

ParticipantThe Trollhiem trolls were out licking their roof again last night and claimed another victim this morning. Although he was a tall guy making for lots of distance to increase his terminal velocity, a dislodged water bottle and wounded pride seemed to be the worst of the damage he suffered.
My ride, however, was thoroughly enjoyable.

ParticipantGreat ride this morning – except for the absolutely random gnat up the nose. Given the wind and general absence of flying insects, this particular impact was Hale-Bop rare.

same here. Hell month is OVER. Back to meandering off on the way home from work and now and then on the weekends.
Let’s all go for a bike ride!

ParticipantHow to manually re-set a biological thermostat and stop sweating in the morning.
Step one: arrive at work, lock up bike.
Step two: attempt to avoid all human contact while in state of extreme sweatiness.
Step three: hit water fountain, drink chilled water until stomach is at the edge of being painfully distended.
Step four: take coldest shower you can stand without involuntary cries of shock.
Step five: leisurely dress from the bottom up, starting with socks and putting on shirt last.May 27, 2015 at 2:36 pm #1030971 -
