I believe the rule is, if the countdown starts, don’t enter.
That’s probably the law. If they started a ticket blitz for it, there’d probably be enough of a stink to get the law changed. (As is happening right now in LA.) Given how short the walk portion of the cycle is, I do not consider it reasonable to only cross at that time and otherwise stand there for an extra few minutes.

Clearly this intersection could use a “barnes dance” protocol.
Good thing we aren’t talking about 7th and H! http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8485-Question-about-Leading-Pedestrian-Intervals&p=113818#post113818

I love 7th and H. I work nearby and feel very special to walk diagonally across the intersection in full compliance with the law.

I sometimes wait an extra light cycle just so I can walk diagonally across the intersection.

Participant5:40 AM on the MVT from Four Mile Run to DC it was raining bugs. I counted roughly 4.6 million of them (oversized gnats). Well over 14,000 perished on impact with my face. I managed to eat only 2. Good ride, then!

Participant… included getting son #2 to trumpet practice, waiving at MMPC, only yelling “DON’T DIE” a few times while escorting son #1 to school on his father’s fixie, riding to work the short way, and passing a hot dog on the Gallows bike lane.
So, happy hour after BTWD on Friday? Is that the third Thursday on a Friday that’s not the third?

ParticipantMetroMaggedon in NoVa!! Total gridlock on Lee Hwy by Rosslyn.
Total gridlock on all streets in Rosslyn.
Sidewalks crushed with people, spilling into streets!
Fire Engines!
Police Cars!
No one going anywhere!
All this compounded by my own personal catastrophe: I had to detour a block out of my way and slow down to avoid the people walking in the streets. That must have cost me two frickin’ minutes.Bikes FTW!

In my experience, they have no flavor. Sort of disappointing that way.

And since my Straggler is in the shop, I drove.

I took my first ride on a bike share from ballston to Thomas circle after getting kicked out of the metro station
not easy to maneuver around all those people walking across key bridge.

ParticipantI desperately needed a rest day today and decided not to ride my bike, opting for metro instead.
I’d say “bad decision” but I’m back at home (and back in my pajamas) on my couch, teleworking.

This is a travesty. I thought you owned all the tools to service that thing yourself now !?!

I answered my co-workers gripes about this with the fact that I got to stop and have free coffee and snacks with a few good folks.
not making any friends at work today.May 11, 2015 at 5:16 pm #1029715dkel

Ha. I do have some tools now, but skill in diagnosing mysterious clicking sounds is not as easily acquired. Pretty sure the freehub body needs servicing (this I found out after consulting with Jan at Bikenetic). I do have a cassette removal tool, but I decided to let the pros do this. It may even come under the free adjustments deal that came with the bike…

It’s too late now, but I would recommend in the future to take Roosevelt Bridge if you know Key Bridge is going to be crowded. Still, it was probably nice to have that alternative to the Metro available when you needed it
