sucked :( I drove today, despite knowing the weather would be nice. I ate at the “Original Pancake House” in Bethesda yesterday, and by afternoon was feeling pretty nauseous. I’m not sure it was the food, nor do I really have any idea what the issue was really. Still feeling a little “blech” today, and woke up way too late to ride.

    Just another manic Monday.

Apparently, when I did some brake adjustments on Sunday, I didn’t tighten the nut on the canti bridge (where the lever cable feeds into the bridge…it’s an older-style system) on my front brake quite enough and it started slipping. So I had to pull into a shopping center and hope that the small wrench I had was the right size for the nut (it was) and get my brakes back in acceptable working order. If it had been my back brake, I would’ve just lived with it, since the bike is FG…but riding without a front brake? Not so much.

As others have stated, glorious commute. Trollheim is now clear of ice and there is very little on the bit of the MVT through to the 14th Street Bridge. Cold, crisp and sunny… Most excellent.

Hoping that temperatures do not drop too much for this evening’s return trip!

Great commute in this morning. The evening commute is looking balmy. Might even be dropping the jacket if it really does stick around in the 40s.

Yes, very pleasant ride into work today… hoping that things do warm up this far evening, it would be so nice to arrive home with full feeling in my hands and feet… for once!

Isn’t that what July is for?

The problem with having no feeling in ones hands is that it takes so long to get my building pass out – or to get my phone to finish my Strava, especially when I cannot actually feel the zipper on my coat (yes, I need a better glove solution)

This AM was chilly enough – the Windstopper was great, but of course did not help with my hands and face. Oddest thing was seeing two cyclists going the opposite way on the sidewalk on King Street between Park Center Drive and 30th Street. I sometimes pass walkers there, but almost never another cyclist. Could they have been FS participants? I will take note of this in future BPAC discussions. That’s a lousy piece of infra (people ride it because King Street is terrible, the sidewalk is narrow and has several hazards, etc)

Great ride in: not only were the MVT connector and TR bridge completely clear, there was a team working with NPS at the TR parking lot side of the Trollheim — apparently resurfacing the bridge is a “priority” for NPS and they were structural engineers looking at the site. WHOO-HOO!!!!

It was much warmer than I expected this morning…I definitely should’ve gone with my light base layer. I also was finally able to consistently skid my fixed gear on purpose, which oddly feels like a major accomplishment. Turns out my problem was trying to do it by locking my right leg, but apparently I’m a left leg skidder (for now).

Going from the mid 20’s to the mid 30’s saves me literally 10 minutes in suiting up.

Lordofhemark – you should consider pogies/moose mitts/bar mitts!

But not this year, the world supply is sold out for those of you not on Team Octothorpe.

Beautiful day, nice sun shining, above freezing, no ice to speak of… and yet I felt very sluggish, slow ride into work on the shortest commute possible.

Was intending to show up at the Java Shack this AM, but when the alarm went off at 6AM I didn’t even hit snooze… I just turned it off. 😮

Just one of those days, I suppose.

Wierd. I had the exact same experience. Although it was a hair below freezing.

Had a great ride in this morning, just wish I had gotten out of bed early enough to make it to the DC FCC. According to the bike thermometer I started at 23°F and ended up at 36°F — I was “just right” when I started and quite warm when I got into work. With the threat of snow next week I’ve kept the studs on, and while I am still feeling slow, I’m actually starting to raise my average speed a bit. I’ve even made some 2015 PRs on Strava, which blew my mind a bit since I started the year on my “fast” tires. Maybe I’m getting stronger? Maybe it was the mild tailwind … That said, my average speed has been creeping up over the last week. Just did not thing I’d see things rise so quickly. Not a bad “problem” to have, I suppose :D

Ditto – must be witchcraft or some other form of wizardry.
