love love….. …except that some of the ruts are so bad that they can grab your wheel and throw you down pretty quick, even with studs. I took a good tumble last winter when just that happened on the MVT by the airport. Even 2″ wide studded tires didn’t help in that case. That said, I love my studs. GD F-ing studs!

ParticipantI am really happy that they plowed the W&OD. Sure, it is still large patches of packed snow, but so much better than last year. I am keeping the studs on for tomorrow, given the amount of ice-only surface between here and Reston. Plus its great to burn 30% more calories per hour and still go 30% slower!

I would’ve taken a picture but my phone shut down from being too cold.

ParticipantIt was on two wheels and amazing. 😮
Fairfax County has now gone the other route, and Lee Highway at Gallows road had so much sand, salt and treatment on it that the wind was causing an actual dust/debris storm. That was interesting.

ParticipantI just need a few sections to clear off a bit more and I can switch back to the glorious, fast road bike and hang the stud-equipped touring bike back on the ceiling. Just a few more sections…

only during shite weather do i find myself lusting after “fast rolling” 700×32 slicks at 65psi.
me, looking down at the speedometer this week, “gah – i would be doing 21mph if it weren’t for these damn tires!!!”

Are those numbers power meter verified?

ParticipantOnly after a week like this could I go out in “feels like: 18” and think, “Hey, it’s warming up”.

ParticipantThe general tenor of “we’re all in this together” from earlier this week has dissipated. Drivers were thoroughly obnoxious this morning. I miss my ride though wooded areas on a bike road into the heart of the City

ParticipantThe MVT South of Alexandria to Tulane was pretty much clear with a few spots of that were largely avoidable. The Dyke Marsh bridge is still snow covered, but not slick like many others. I took the alternate route again today through Alexandria, Crystal City, the Pentagon, the 27 Trail, and Memorial Bridge and with the exception of the brief icy section on the 27 Trail, it was wonderful. Got to the Coffee Club a little late, but still had a few minutes to drink hot coffee and say hello. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you at the Happy Hour tonight.

ParticipantIt’s a historical thing. When Freezing Saddles started three years ago, the forum was just the BikeArlington forum, so #BAFS gained usage as standing for BikeArlington Freezing Saddles. Old habits die hard, even though BikeArlington has since invited other jurisdictions to join and participate in the forum.
