ParticipantMy, it’s still a little early for Freezing Saddles-style taunting.

ParticipantWell, the snow line is just getting to Purcellville.

ParticipantI came in a bit late and was number 38 past the monolith. I’m assuming all the cyclists just have the day off.

I’m teleworking today from my warm, dry dining room, but my wife is earning some Rule 9 points by biking the kids to school right now. I’m trying to time it so the fresh pot of coffee is ready right as she walks back in the door.
Operation Hot Coffee at Moment of Homecoming was a complete success.

ParticipantSnowing here in Greenbelt now — think I’ll just stay in my cozy loft next to the fireplace for a bit longer…

ParticipantYeah, huge wet flakes coming down like crazy in Columbia Heights. I’m hoping this keeps up but the roads stay clear through 1pm so I can go get the kids from school on the longtail.

ParticipantIt was definitely a rain cape kind of morning. And the new chain and cassette I installed last night got initiated in a mean way. In hindsight, I probably should have waited until after today’s foul weather commuting to do that little bit of maintenance, but it had already waited a week or so since I got my new cassette, so I jumped at the spot of free time last night to work on the bike.
The rain let up for the last half of the ride, though the headwind did not. Fortunately managed to avoid two large splashes made by passing cars on the MVT/GWP. I only saw two other cyclists on my seven mile route from Del Ray to DC. Guess between it being Turkey Day Eve and the weather, I shouldn’t be too surprised by that.

Now would be the appropriate time to outfit the long tail with lights and other festive ornamentation to make your kids the envy of the snow covered playground

Don’t think, just ride.
Thanks for the advice. I wound up riding and missing most of the heavy precipitation. I got stuck at work until 11 pm and my wife refused to let me ride home, using the word “insane” multiple times. I guess we’re just not on the same page about cycling. I can’t say I minded the lift home though.

I run into this issue a lot. I keep explaining I’m probably safer on the bike than otherwise. Sometimes I’m forced to half compromise and take Metro if it’s late, which is funny because it’s when I prefer being on the trails since having them to yourself is awesome.

What’s with the explaining? Get on the bike, then text that you are on your way and will be home in xx minutes. Done.

I don’t attempt to apply logic to those situations because each time I do, it fails me.
Sometimes I try this strategy. Usually it results in a phone call while I’m going down a hill that I don’t answer. Often I find it better to just wait for the text/call 2/3 of the way back and then say so close that doing otherwise would negate it all.

ParticipantGreat morning commute. Naturally, did not check the temperature this AM, so was clearly overdressed.
But sweatin’ a bit more never hurt…

Ditto. Although oddly the temperature seemed to plummet just north of OT on the MVT, which made no sense given it seemed a good 5-10 degrees cooler there than at my house which sits atop a big hill. It felt like high 50s at my house and yet high 40s right at beginning of Daingerfeld Island there.

I tried convincing my wife that I’m safer on the bike too, but she simply wasn’t having it. Virtually every commute I do is in the darkness but for some reason she was spooked about Thanksgiving eve.
