ParticipantIt’s a privilege to ride a bike on a day like this.

ParticipantI’d forgotten one ramification of this weather. The remaining riders tend to be at roughly the same fitness level, so there’s less passing and nearly as much riding in small groups as in warmer weather.

I’m always surprised when I see riders in this weather do silly, rookie things (like the guy with bar mitts who shoaled me at the IoD after I passed him on the way up, necessitating that I pass him again…) I guess it’s a good sign that cycling is so widespread even the silly ones are biking in this.

I wimped out on a Hains Point lap this morning because of the cold. I hang my head in shame.
Also, I realized that my current handlebar setup on the fixed gear is going to allow either Moose Mitts or a brake, but not both. This is not a welcome realization.
you can’t fit the moose mitt over the brake? my moose mitts cover almost to my stem, so I would think there would be room.

You know, I didn’t actually TRY. I probably should, though. I haven’t put them on any bike since last winter so maybe I’m misremembering the coverage.

I can get them over the two-finger setup on my bikes as well.

and I saw one on the custis.
come to think of it, a wind fairing would probably keep you nice and cozy. couple that with a full face helmet, and you’re sitting pretty.

ParticipantSW winds suck in the morning since I basically ride 6 miles south then 12 miles west… of course the cyclist law of wind shift will go into effect probably around 5:00 tonight when I am about to ride home. It also sucked that I had to skip all low fives this morning due to a work injury suffered yesterday afternoon. The silver lining; it felt warm this morning.

ParticipantMorning commute was nice and relaxing, until my boss pulled up next to me and offered to drag race up the final climb to work. I beat him to the top but I think he let me win.
