Apparently all the early morning commuters thought it was too cold out, since I only saw a couple of other cyclists on my route this morning.
I noticed that there were fewer people on the trail, too. I was #38 on the Rosslyn bike counter (at 6:38) this morning! Usually I’m somewhere in the 60s. But this might be attributed to the fact that I was rather early. I took a short detour on the C&O Canal in Georgetown and still had to wait a minute until my card would let me into the underground parking at our building.

ParticipantFunny, I thought I saw the normal or slightly above normal number of riders along MVT. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the volume. I was also 15 minutes before I usually ride through so maybe just a timing thing. I did figure with the cold no one would be out.

ParticipantI didn’t see any morning commuters on the Greenbriar River Trail this morning, but did get a few afternoon riders on my way back to the car.

just wait ’till this evening, you’ll be freaking out that you’re late getting home, too!
Nah… I get off pretty early, so even with the time change, it was still plenty light out. Although, I did take the long way home and it was getting a bit dusk-ish by the time I got home. I am not sure my dogs were amused that their afternoon walk was almost in the dark!
This morning, I only saw two other cyclists… It was kind of sad.
BUT… It made me feel elite for continuing on with my bike commute even when it is slightly chilly out! Bring it on, Winter… Bring it on!November 4, 2014 at 1:01 pm #1013822bobco85
ParticipantBest time to vote: before you go to work. Had no lines whatsover.

I had the longest line I’ve seen since I moved to Cherrydale. Probably 40 people in front of me.

Mine went on my helment.
Had a first today on the ride in. Just after I turned onto the MVT from the Crystal City Connector I found myself right behind a guy I’d seen sitting on the side of the trail in the past smoking. Well, today, he was smoking while riding down the trail. So, I got a lungful of his second hand smoke as I waited for cyclists going the opposite direction to pass before I could pass smoker dude. Ugh.
Otherwise, voting was fun, and the weather was damn near perfect!

ParticipantFirst fixed gear lap at Hains Point. It was fun. Until I got a flat tire going across the bridge to work. Two of the four cyclists who passed offered help (which I didn’t need, but appreciated the offer).
Also, I see Strava on Android is now sharing data with Google’s new Fit activity tracker app. Fit guesses when you’re riding your bike, but cool to have the integration.

I’ve also been keeping on my cycling sandals all this time, sometimes with light socks, sometimes with wool socks (today was a light socks day); I don’t own regular cycling shoes, let alone shoe covers.
Bonus style points for how late into the year one wears cycling sandals and/or shorts. Deductions for riders who wear inadequate or no gloves and have to ride down the trail with hands stuck in their pockets.
