ParticipantToday was the unofficial drop out day for fair weather commuters. And I saw a gratifying number of the hard core out there with me.
Tried a new footwear combo. SPD sandals, Gore shoe covers and neoprene socks. The goal is easy drying and adequate warmth. Seems to work.

That day is seriously one of my favorite days of the year. Bye-bye to the screaming-brake, helmetless, earbuds-in, turning 120 RPM in the granny gear and taking the whole trail going 5 MPH crowd. See you in April.
Should be a national holiday, except that would be oxymoronic because then we wouldn’t get to ride on it.

Anyway, I hope all of you who rode this morning feel similarly awesome.
Agree. Really happy I rode. I wish I’d opted for pants instead of shorts though.
Also really hope all my gear is dry before I have to get back into it.

ParticipantSo… um…. does anyone else’s office currently reek of wet cycling gear??

The sandals and Gore shoe covers are already dry. The jacket is probably still wet, but it’s down in my locker. Tights, socks and jersey from the a.m. are sealed in ziplocs, and fresh ones are ready to go.

I’m mixed on this. Having the whole CCT to myself in the winter, when I used to commute on it, was a pleasure. However, almost every rider, no matter where they are in their evolution as a cyclist, is another one on our team. The more of us there are, even ones who aren’t as seasoned as we, the better.

ParticipantA bit of a headwind these last two mornings, but it has been beautiful out. This morning I had a smile when I saw someone with a pumpkin pail over his helmet on the MVT.

Last three mornings actually. But at least the last two haven’t been accompanied by a cold driving rain like Wednesday. This morning th 25-30 mph wind gusts were producing waves with whitecaps on the Potomac. The upside has been a nice tailwind heading home… and a more invigorating morning workout.

ParticipantI had to drive in to work today to pick up stuff that not even the mightiest of cargobikes would fit. Alas…
But passing by the racks I had to stop and take a picture. Someone managed to have a MUCH worse commute than I did!

ParticipantThat should weld right up. Doesn’t look like anyone was impaled on it either.

The bike in question should be black and guarding a small bridge.
It’s also the ultimate Cat 6 racing bike. “None shall pass.”

Maybe that’s what he said the first time he welded it.
