It was 60 degrees this morning, which to me, is a bastard of a temp. Just cool enough where I am going to be really cold in short sleeves, and two warm if I wear a jacket. My jacket is an REI one that has windstopper panels in front and spandex/poly in the back. I opted for a merino blend long sleeve shirt and a dry fit short sleeve over that. I was pretty cool for the first 3 or so miles, but got comfortable after that.

With that said, I am a real wiener when it comes to being cold! Summer, please don’t go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is hoping for a scorcher in Sept!

    Arm warmers. Problem solved.

Back in the old days (early 2013) I would wake up every morning and have an internal debate about whether or not to drive in to work. Was I too tired? How was I feeling? Blah, blah, blah.

As I was biking in this morning it occurred to me that I don’t even have the internal debate anymore. Bike commuting is second nature. I haven’t driven in since early March and had it not been for shoulder planting on the WOD ice back in February, this may have been a car free year.

I drove my wife to work yesterday (she was going directly from work to the airport). It was only 30 minutes, but felt like hours, and all I could think was “people really do this EVERY day?” I actually used to be one of those people, but I haven’t car commuted more than a handful of times in like two years, so I’ve almost totally forgotten what it feels like.

I don’t think I will ever forget the rage I felt sitting in gridlock on Constitution Avenue, or the Roosevelt Bridge, or GW Parkway before Spout Run. RAGECOMMUTING was the worst.

Gearing up for my 5 AM departure tomorrow. I think this is my seventh commute since I started and it’s becoming second nature for me as well. I only work on Saturday and Wednesday. The rest of the time my “job” is parenting…Mr Mom. Commuting as become so much fun. Working seems just a minor distraction between rides now. It’s the one day per week I can guarantee myself some decent mileage. Wednesdays are out due to kid swapping.

I invested in a bell today. Seemed like a good idea when the trail gets busy going home.

    Cheers!

To the guy who said, ” You’re blinding me” this dark morning on the MVT, to whom I replied simply, “Good morning” as I sped past…I apologize. I run my Cygolite hot in that neck of the woods. Sometimes it takes an unwitting cyclist approaching me to help me dial it in. I assure you that adjustments were promptly made on-the-fly as soon as I comprehended what you said. Didn’t mean to blind you.

No unsafe passes for me today, and my bell worked the charm in the darkness this morning alerting a centerline straddling walker to pick a line. Apparently my light wasn’t bright enough for him.

I’m starting to see familiar Saturday riders out there. I guess that means this whole bike commute thing is evolving. I look forward to working on Saturday just to get that big ride in. As worn out as I might get I never want to get off the bike. Smells like addiction.

First day of school, finally. The front of the school looked like the Xtracycle factory exploded. I didn’t get a picture because we were already late, but I will. It was amazing.

I don’t really have a morning commute anymore…but I rode down for a HP loop at 1030 and was MISERABLE. Temperature-wise, it’s not even excessively hot, but I feel like I just didn’t have to acclimate to the extreme heat/humidity this summer like usual, so now that it’s here, I’m totally unprepared. For the rest of the week, I think if I can’t get my butt out the door by 9am, I’m not leaving the house.

Hey, we had a week or so of miserably hot weather a while back. This isn’t the first week, it’s just a shock after how nice it’s been. Great time for me to move into a house with no central air.

Ha! It really screws up pool season. Now it’ll get all hot, but the pool is about to close!
