ParticipantWonderful morning – but got caught in a gaggle of joggers by the Lincoln Memorial – is this a daily thing? If so, it needs more hot pants.

I’m pretty sure it is a Wednesday morning thing. This morning it was a little lighter than usual, I think.

Uh yeah, no. Probably a sentiment best kept to one’s self.

ParticipantThere’s a giant hole in the middle lane of M Street (2600 block of Penn Ave between 28th and 26th NW) just after you cross the bridge from Georgetown. There is a police officer and vehicle there with lights on blocking the hole when I rode through this morning around 715.

ParticipantThe eastbound Pennsylvania Avenue cycle track at the intersections of 11th and 12th streets NW are also completely ripped up. Have fun dancing between rough road, a really bad patch/transition along the seam, and the bollards on the pedestrian islands!

ParticipantIt was a happy social morning – passed Fast Friendly Guy beneath the Shirlington Connector and got a warm, happy wave and “Have a good one” from the cyclist who had followed me down Commonwealth as I turned off onto Monroe. 😎

Thanks for the tip – helpful for my commute yesterday!
There’s still cones around it (looks marginally better than yesterday). You can pass it in the left or right lanes, whereas yesterday the middle lane and the right lane were both closed.

ParticipantIt was a beautiful morning. And just the right mix of people but no crowds, in my opinion.
The ride home will be warmer, but I’m looking forward to it! (and my National Bike Challenge platinum medal is so close I can almost touch it… but it won’t be today)

ParticipantIt was 60 degrees this morning, which to me, is a bastard of a temp. Just cool enough where I am going to be really cold in short sleeves, and two warm if I wear a jacket. My jacket is an REI one that has windstopper panels in front and spandex/poly in the back. I opted for a merino blend long sleeve shirt and a dry fit short sleeve over that. I was pretty cool for the first 3 or so miles, but got comfortable after that.
With that said, I am a real wiener when it comes to being cold! Summer, please don’t go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is hoping for a scorcher in Sept!

ParticipantI thought about driving today because I’d already gone for a run this morning, have a short day at the office, and knew car traffic would be light, but given the weather, I knew that if I didn’t ride I’d regret it, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of my life. So I rode.
And I was cold on a bike for the first time in months. Errr, not months. Actually just 13 days since I rode in New Hampshire in 39 degrees with 40 mph winds. But it’s the first time I’ve been cold around DC in a long time.

ParticipantBack in the old days (early 2013) I would wake up every morning and have an internal debate about whether or not to drive in to work. Was I too tired? How was I feeling? Blah, blah, blah.
As I was biking in this morning it occurred to me that I don’t even have the internal debate anymore. Bike commuting is second nature. I haven’t driven in since early March and had it not been for shoulder planting on the WOD ice back in February, this may have been a car free year.
