As I was leaving home, a Capital Bikeshare Sprinter (but not one of the white rebalancing ones) pulled up to the location by my apartment where one of the the new Del Ray CaBi stations is supposed to be. Encouraging sign for future progress!
Looks like one of the stations opened today in Del Ray–via twitter: @AlexandriaVAGov: Del Ray are you ready for @bikeshare??!! It is ready for you! Your station at Mt. Vernon & E. Nelson! pic.twitter.com/HeJyCVyIKs

ParticipantTurning left on Gallows on to Old Gallows today (deathwish!), I hear the truck behind me gun the engine, and think “oh boy, don’t kill me please?”. Then, while going up Kidwell Drive (the bridge over 7), the driver passes me carefully and conscientiously – going entirely into the next lane, AND accounting for my inevitable increase in speed going down the bridge. I could’ve been in an 18-wheeler and still had plenty of room.
The side of the truck said “Pete Store”, and that’s when I realized I’d discovered Dirt’s mothership.

Looks like a flip of the coin as far as the probability of rain is concerned between now and Saturday night. But it’s keeping the mercury below the 90 mark, which makes this camper quite happy.

I imagine him rolling out the back on random highways at full speed like Knight Rider, to dispense justice for small-town cyclists across the heartland. His Garmin is KITT. They have long conversations.

ParticipantI had a nice uneventful ride in today. It’s this evening that I’m worried about lol…

ParticipantMy commute to work ended about 3/4 of a mile short of my office with a bang, as my rear tire blew out (sidewall failure) at 15th and Independence. Plan on a closer inspection at lunch to see if I can boot it or if I should call/stop by District Hardware to see what they have in the way of cheap 26″ tires to get me home. Ugh…
rcannon, was the kid planning to go out to the Gravelly Point CX track this AM? I saw someone riding on it that looked a lot like a picture of your son I remember you posting on the forum once on a bike that looked like the new one mentioned in the happy hour thread yesterday.

My exact sentiments for today.
Of course last night, I was never fully drenched. It was just a constant light rain the whole way. Annoying, but manageable.

ParticipantApproaching curbcut right before Key Bridge where GWMP exit ramp is located, I looked right and no cars there. Right before I enter intersection I check again and a young girl driving a black toyota suv is flying up like she’s merging onto another highway. So I skid-stop and she does as well. Then I decide to go again and she starts to move forward before stopping a few inches from me. She’s lucky I slowed her down as she would have come flying onto the road way too fast hitting traffic. I don’t know sign markage there, but now I’m going to check since she seemed oblivious to the notion she was leaving a limited access highway.
Otherwise beautiful ride in.

ParticipantThe commuting weather and being on the bike (after an weekend of being press-ganged into yardwork and french drain digging by the Minister of the Interior and Finance and All Domestic Affairs (MIFADA) was great this AM.
The body and especially the legs were not cooperating. Was a struggle to commute (mainly downhill) this AM to work. Here’s to hoping that the Monday AM blues do not continue into the evening for my legs.
I suspect the second pannier with the work laptop and two weeks supply of Illy coffee did not help… but they are both necessary!
Ugh.

That’s always a fun spot. Saw a guy that had crashed in to something there last week. No other vehicle, but he was partially up on the sidewalk and the front of his car was all banged up.
