ParticipantWere all four ways showing green and red at the same time? Broken signals are to be treated as four way stops. WAMU has taken to reminding its listeners of that on the traffic reports during storms. Of course around here it turns into a big game of chicken, or whoever blinks first, loses.

Yes, it looked like it was that way for the folks coming onto Wisconsin as well. Thankfully only one car coming onto it and they didn’t seem kamikaze.

Signal somehow to show what you’re planning to do, proceed carefully after someone offers to let you through, then contact DDOT about the light asap.
I was going straight. Just slowed down in case the one car waiting decided to try to go, but he didn’t. Volume was decently heavy on Wisconsin so I suspect he wasn’t about to try to make the dash. I’ll e-mail DDOT although I’m guessing they must have seen it by now given how many cars drive through the light daily.

So this morning, the light at Wisconsin Ave and Newark (I think it was Newark, one of those in that little area) was solid green and solid red simultaneously. This is the second time I have encountered this cycling in the last three months
The dangers of “modern” technology. Once upon a time there were mechanical interlocks which made such combinations impossible.

This is the second time I have encountered this cycling in the last three months. The last time was in OT Alexandria going down Columbia. What exactly is the protocol? Treat it like a blinking red? I’m really not sure even for driving. And it appeared other drivers didn’t understand either so of course they defaulted to assuming it was green. The light wasn’t running through it’s normal cycle either as I slowed thinking maybe it would change. Thoughts?
Which reminds me, yesterday morning, on our way to our 15 seconds of fame, the light at Irving and 50 was blinking. Not wanting to die, we just headed over the pedestrian bridge just to the West, but as we did so, we could see that it cycled from blinking red for Irving and yellow for 50 (presumably to let 50 go and tell Irving “too bad so sad, you’re never going to cross this road”) to blinking yellow for Irving and red for 50 (presumably to tell 50 to stop and Irving “now is the time to risk your life”). It didn’t seem like the smartest signaling.

One of my coworkers is a cyclist who hardly ever rides (we all know the type) and I’ve been egging her on to ride to work; just so happens she lives a couple miles from Lake Accotink, so because I’m going that way anyway, she agreed to ride with me tomorrow. That’s a win!
Well, she bailed out! Too busy this week. I told her we can try again later, as I don’t need much encouragement to slap the CX tires on. I’m not sure when she’ll get un-busy enough to do it, though (she can be a bit of a mess sometimes!).

ParticipantIt was a bit splashy on the towpath this morning.

Hmmm … how about tomorrow?

Do you run those CX tires all the time, or was the towpath a special outing? I usually run touring tires for my W&OD commute, but I’ve been enjoying the CX tires for the last couple of weeks (they look badass under my classy VO fenders). I’m wondering if I might appreciate the CX tires come late fall and into winter, though, depending on the conditions. (I will be getting studs this year, but that means it won’t snow at all, or even dip below freezing.)

I put them on to ride gravel with the Bikenetic horde on Sunday and I’ve been too lazy to switch them back. I usually commute on 28c Gatorskins.

I think tomorrow will be my last gravel commute: my back is taking a beating from this! My regular commuting tires are 37 Contis. I’ll have to look for opportunities to put the fatties on again (but it won’t be until my body recovers from all this punishment).

ParticipantHave you ever had one of those days you wish your commute was twice as long as it actually is? I just did. Unfortunately, I overslept and didn’t get to get in an extra hour on the bike before work. Oh well.
It’s also days like this that make me wish I lived in San Diego, where every day is like this.

I agree with you, except for the part about San Diego, while the weather’s nice, it’s in California.

ParticipantDid a change up to the ride in order to noodle out a workaround to a temp closed cut through this am. Spotted DCV and EM eastbound on the WOD. What great weather for riding we have right now.
