ParticipantWife “you are biking in? be careful!” Not sure why she was more concerned today – she had posted the citibike zero fatalities story to her facebook, but I guess it got her thinking about bike safety.
Remembered to pump the tires this time, but I think I could have gone longer on the front tire – I need to remember to do this the night before.
Due to some sidewalk blockage due to construction on the east side of Hummer I took the lane on Hummer and crossed LRT vehicle style to get to my bus. I’m getting more confident, but its still an uncomfortable intersection.
I turn my lights off to ride the 29G bus – and tend to forget to turn them on at the Pentagon. I need to remind myself somehow.
The day was beautiful and the ride good, although the winds were strong, and were headwinds for me on the northbound section around the Pentagon. There were LOTS of folks on bikes around the Jefferson. There was construction equipment blocking the sidewalk at the turn from Ohio to Maine, and I wasn’t comfortable hopping into the road, so (I am deeply sorry) I took the grass. I did combo of Maine Avenue sidewalk, ride through the fishmarket to Water to 9th, back to Maine avenue sidewalk – which got around all the blockages.
Took the lane on 7th up to Eye, feeling more confident doing that. Eye street lanes were a bit less ideal, between sloppy parking, doors, etc. Especially at Eye and S Cap where drivers wanting to proceed east and impatient with left turning motorists use the bike lane to pass on the right. Still not bad overall.
Time overall was 35 minutes, which wasn’t bad considering dealing with headwinds. I do think I need to do this more than once a week to get in better shape for it.

ParticipantA beautiful day, and a fine ride. I was loaded “heavy” due to bringing in a number of pictures and plaques for my office walls. (almost 6 years since I had a ‘permanent office… I don’t really remember what it’s like!) My steed has developed a number of squeaks and noises – some might just be a need to lubricate, but others seem more… ominous? A trip to Bikenetic seems to be in my future.
Oh, and today was the day of maintenance vehicles. One on Custis, one along the reflecting pool, and one moving very slowly on Jefferson. Add the Garbage truck on Cottage, and it was a full day of fun.

ParticipantDespite being slightly hungover from last afternoon/night’s Nats game and a headwind the entire 17 miles, today was a really enjoyable ride.

ParticipantI get to ride through a tunnel of beautiful green trees on a protected path; pedal alongside a gorgeous river; see our nation’s monuments and pass through Georgetown and in front of the White House. Getting to work is the best part of my day.
I really don’t understand why more people don’t do this. Suckers.

I believe it is an international police organization created specifically to judge the merit of Tim Kelly’s KOMs

No, leaving at 1:30 on Friday on a glorious day like today (like I am about to do) is tops in my book.

I did not break this morning, had a fantastic ride in. Thanks for the company Hozn! The pace was perfect, hope it wasn’t too slow for you. (Don’t call me Sandbagger….)

Yeah, folks …. so dgm is a fast rider.
Was a great pace! — and great to meet you. Sure was a great morning (and afternoon) to be out on the bike.

ParticipantA little sluggish this morning, so either my brakes are rubbing or my legs are a little rusty from two weeks off the bike…I’m thinking it’s the brakes.

ParticipantMajor wipe out at Trollheim. EMS was on its way with many cyclists stopped caring for the guy that was down. When those boards are wet, they are slippery.
There was also a woman on the MVT coxing a turtle away from the GWP. I should have stopped and helped.

Photocredit: sharrowsDCAre those foam? They look like they’d be quite fun to ride through. Like on a CaBi during an early lunch.

They looked like they were heavy corrugated cardboard or particle board (or some combination thereof). Some extremely nice folks were finishing trying to shuffle them into the turn area when I went past. I don’t know how they resisted the urge to build a big Duplo wall in the auto lane or erect a decent U-turn barrier.
