By the time you find the owner, the kid will have outgrown it.

ParticipantHad a friendly (but short) chat while passing a guy in jeans and a hiviz yellow jacket of some sort on the bike lane on 309 heading down to Lee/29. Always nice to see another rider out. Sorry I wasn’t more chatty… hadn’t consumed any coffee or breakfast yet.

ParticipantStarted talking to another cyclist at Fairfax and Lee, and when I mentioned that the W&OD was supposed to be plowed, he started following me, although I had intended to ride down Washington Blvd, I ended up riding the W&OD to custis. he bailed after about 30 seconds.

And the Covet thread. Do they make them with SPDs?

ParticipantI had not intended to be Billy Badass Belgian Bike Commuter this morning. Got a flat around the Lincoln and the rain beat me into work by 15 minutes.
Pro: I always keep a spare shirt at work
Con: I don’t keep spare pants
Pro: At least my pants are blackFebruary 19, 2014 at 2:41 pm #994060TwoWheelsDC

ParticipantI was back on the road today after seeing the runoff refreeze on my driveway. I expected the MUPs to have numerous ice patches and I really did not want to ride the studded tires (although I wasn’t much faster on the hybrid).

ParticipantOn the whole, Custis wasn’t too bad this morning. The only treacherous spot I encountered was the rollers near N. Adams; the low point of each was filled with solid ice. Let’s just say that I had trouble staying upright while walking my bike through that mess. Unfortunately even the higher daytime temps won’t help too much as that area gets ZERO sunlight at this time of year.

ParticipantHit the trails a little befor 0700. Custis to W&OD to 4MR to MVT to Lynn Street was pretty decent. Some run off had turned to slush and there were the ocassional icy or frosted patches, but nothing you couldn’t handle at a decent clip on 25s.

ParticipantGonna make an effort to get on the road early tomorrow morning:
A squall line may enter the western suburbs as early as 9-10 a.m., with an arrival around noon for D.C.’s eastern suburbs (timeline subject to some tweaking).
The showers and storms will blow through quickly – within a couple hours, but may put down a quick 0.25-0.5″ of rain, with locally higher amounts. Storm drains and gutters may experience some overflow due to lingering snow and related winter debris.
Winds, especially east of the District, are likely to gust over 30 mph, with an outside shot at 50 mph or higher gusts.
By 2 to 3 p.m., the line of activity will have crossed the Bay, and sunshine will return.

ParticipantFirst fixed commute this morning. 46×16 seems really big for my moderately hilly (60ish feet per mile) commute, but I did okay. I may step down to a 17t or 18t in the back though. The hardest part for me is coming to a stop with my feet in the right position to unclip and put the correct foot down. I can manage just fine coming to a stoplight, but creeping along with some traffic this morning was really awkward.
Edit: I also really like the bullhorns…very good for climbing and they put me in a good position for cruising.

Said squall has now relocated to 12:45 to 2:45, so keep dry and ride on.
