Apparently for you people in East Westover the county deigned to drop a plow blade on your bucolic street. We plebes in West Westover had to portage our transportation to the nearest plowed secondary street.
But the plowing buried all the cars parked on Longfellow. I was actually glad 15th, where we park (we have a corner lot), did not get plowed.

ParticipantPerhaps I need to fire off a letter to the county board suggesting that your cul de sac* get higher plowing priority.
*The part of 15th that TwoWheelsDC mentions is a dead end road.

Our street (a nasty hill) got plowed about 5:30 this morning. I then dug my wife’s car out on 4 Mile Run Drive, about a two foot high berm, and cleared the three foot high berm across our driveway.

Do they even accept letters originating west of the Beer Garden?

ParticipantCraptastic. Still no gym access, so work clothes. No busses on Braddock Rd, either express or local. So, rode sheets of ice to Little River Turnpike, where I saw a local bus to King Street and took that. Big mistake. Took an hour to get to King Street metro. Rode Commonwealth to four mile run, portaged on a snow-covered sidewalk across the stream at Rt. 1, then back down 4MR to Eads to the Pentagon. Trying for Memorial Bridge, I rode on 110 for 1/2 mile or so because the trail was unusable. The cars were nice though. Memorial Bridge path was ice covered but passable. Lincoln Memorial plaza was mostly unpassable. And then rode in the streets to work. One hour and 50 minutes door to door.

I thought your strava feed looked a little bizarre. Glad you arrived safely!

A little worried about tomorrow’s potential commute. My ride is all roads and I can’t imagine that there will be much extra room for me. Also, icy slush.
I tested the roads and bailed to Metro. Even the main drive lanes were icy slushy jagged icebergs this morning, although a few hours of sun should fix that by this afternoon.
Looks like DC roads are doing pretty well (although the sidewalks are pathetic). It’s just outer cartopiaburbs that were bad on my commute this morning.

Had to do the same thing yesterday. Also had to ride the street on Memorial and 14th St Bridges. Hopefully they’ll clear the bridge sidewalks today. Glad you made it in okay.

I’m on 15th St too – we had to chase down the plow driver, otherwise he would have kept going on Longfellow. If you’re on a cul-de-sac, you’re screwed – except 15th Rd.

ParticipantI’m on 15th as well, but in the slums to the West of the Beer Garden. I was amazed to come home to have asphalt showing in front of the house.

ParticipantAfter yesterday’s reconnoiter ride, I decided to skip the MUPs because this morning’s snow was going to hide the ice patches. Other than getting out of my neighborhood, I had clear, but wet streets the whole way in to Rosslyn. Unlike Friday’s ride in, several drivers were very inconsiderate. I can never understand why someone would drive without clearing all their windows. Of course one of those drivers was the same inconsiderate soul who just had to pass me before the crest of a hill on 16th St between Harrison and George Mason. I guess he got impatient since he couldn’t pass me before the Harrison stop sign because there were construction trucks parked on both sides ot the street constricting the passage to one lane.

ParticipantAfter this morning’s frustrating interaction with useless DC Councilmember Jim Graham about the giant pile of snow at PA Ave and 14th, completely blocking the cycletrack, I was all set to have a nice commute in this oppresive heat.
Yeah, that didn’t happen. On 15th, between K and Mass, I had THREE pedestrians walk out in front of me without even looking. One stopped when I yelled, one sort of stopped when I yelled, and one gave me a look I was from Jupiter when I came to a screeching stop a few feet from him. When the light at Mass turned green, I started off and of course I had a flat tire.
I’ve had enough of today. I’m going to crack open that bottle of gin we have in the cupboard and go to bed. Who wants to watch my kids?

In “the big one” a few years back, it took 4 days for our cul-de-sac to get plowed. This time the plows got to us by mid-afternoon the first day.
