I thought it was reflective striping that had been sprayed over sand, it colored my tires a bit yesterday morning.

Yes! I’ve noticed that too, I think it’s the stripe that is wearing away. Rain will eventually get rid of it, and then how will we know where the lane is? :-)

The worst part of this mornings commute (other than having to sit by myself at HDCC) was just getting down my driveway.

Well how do you like that! I got there about 7:33. I must have just missed you. There was a guy by himself sitting in our usual booth, so I sat across the aisle and waited for anyone to show up.
I saw no one else! I had no idea you had already been there. I met a couple (nonriders) who were very friendly, but for riders, it was just me while I was there.

Happiness is having covered, secure parking at work so I could ride in yesterday morning, take public transportation home and back into work today and ride home this evening. Avoiding all the icy mess. Now if they would just install heated towel racks and a hot tub I would be all set.

At the last building I worked in, the gym (which I didn’t have to pay for) had towel service, so you could grab a fresh towel every morning and toss it in the bin when you were done. This was such a nice perk that I didn’t even appreciate until I lost it.

My commute this morning was fine. A little colder than expected, but the two bike commuters I normally see in the locker room who hadn’t been there in a week or two both rode in today.

    .

I currently have this too but I’m losing it tomorrow. I’m scared. Sweaty and scared.

Get a camp towel from REI. Small enough to take up almost no room, but absorptive enough to get you dry. Mine dries within about an hour, draped over the CPU under my desk, and doesn’t get smelly like a cotton towel.

Seconded. It’s the closest you can get to towel service without towel service.

I have the REI towels and they work great. I want the heated towel rack for my ice cold clothes.

Tomorrow you’ll be sweaty, scared, AND stinky. That’s some kind of trifecta.

Sport “swim towels” also work really well. Some are meant to be stored wet. On summer days that means the same towel absorbs your sweat and cools you down. The original: http://si.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1065182/index.htm

It’s a wonderful day to ride, even if you did hobble your usual commuter and had to ride the studly-tired bike on the decidedly non-icy W&OD.

    That is all. Carry on.

Rode in this morning for the first time in a couple weeks, which means I’m in a much better mood today. Even though a jogger with dog tried to commit suicide by cutting in front of me. But he heeded my hollerin’ and pulled up; no blood, no foul.

Rare Saturday morning commute for me — happens about six-eight times a year for Board meetings at my employer org. Left home a little before 6:45 and got to work around 7:15. I was surprised to see exactly zero cyclists on my commute, which includes a few miles on the MVT and a ride around the Tidal Basin and across the Mall. With the exception of three joggers I passed, I literally had the trail to myself this AM, and most of the roads, too, as there were very few cars out either. It’s painful to wake up so early, especially on a Saturday, but it was nice having the world to myself for a while.

Last evening’s commute: discovered I had a slow leak in my rear tire on the way back. Thanks to everyone who stopped to check if I was ok on Penn Ave: biker with a cool front rack/bag combo, lady driving a silver Jeep with a bike rack, and other biker on the fixie/SS, much appreciated! I got it pumped enough to make it home and changed out the tube for this morning’s beautiful ride in!

Well that f-ing sucked. On the coldest day I’ve ridden in on this year I got my first AM flat about halfway. I was right near Nats Park.

I wasn’t too enthusiastic about fixing it in the cold, so I walked over to the metro station to see if they would be flexible and realize that going OUTbound in the AM was not going to cause any problems. Between there and Suitland there’s probably 6 people/car, but the lady there stupidly stuck to the policy about no bikes ever during rush hour no matter how nonsensical it is. Thanks metro for sticking to your policy of never actually helping anyone. So, I fixed my flat tire in the cold… I figured one of the billions of shards of glass on the road got stuck in it, but I soon realized that the sidewall of my tire was pulling apart. Not good! Fortunately I was able to pump it up enough to ride on, but not pumped enough to make the tear worse. I made it in ok, but I don’t think I should ride it home. Ugh… that means leaving my bike here and taking metro.

Oh yeah, I got in about 30 minutes late, which doesn’t help my mood.
