It didn’t really look any different than normal since she had her blanket over her like usual. But I was thinking this morning that I probably could have easily run away with the #Kidical side competition of Freezing Saddles. Is there a leader board for that?

There should be soon. But you’d have some real competition for it – there are some other #kidical commuters, and stay-at-homes to give you a run for your money. :-)

Yeah, I was out with my rain cape and only encountered three other riders as well. One good thing about this kind of rain is that it washes off the accumulated salt. That may also be a bad thing as the temperature drops throughout the day and the rain changes to sleet and snow. Heavy sigh.

Aww, no worries, my friend….that’s why we got our Schwalbe Marathons!

Yep, soggy ride this morning–hopefully it washed the salt off the bike. If I had not had to get to work, I would not have been out on a bike this morning. In a three mile ride the rainwater ran down the raincoat sleeves into both gloves and soaked them. All else stayed dry, including the shoes and socks now that I’m putting plastic bags under the spandex shoe covers and running the tops of the bags up under the rain pants. I wear a cycling cap–that is, one with a small brim–when I ride in the rain to keep the raindrops from stinging my eyes. Works. I’m thinking of switching to disk brakes. I think they’ll require less maintenance than caliper brakes which seem to require new brakes pads all too soon after I put new ones in. Also I think they’ll work better in the rain.

My morning commute stunk. Took Metro, lost my wallet somewhere. And now, my everyday lunch place that knows me and would give me a sandwich on credit was just closed by the board of health.

Maybe you’re better off without that sandwich…

Of Course! That’s why my overmits filled up with rainwater that ran down the raincoat sleeves. I couldn’t believe so much wetness had infiltrated the seams! Next time I’m tucking them inside my sleeves! Thanks for the simple insight that I didn’t see for myself!

I had a lovely commute. My new Showers Pass commuter pants were AWESOME (Christmas present – thanks go out to my amazing mother-in-law) and my rain coat with its hood under my helmet worked really well.

We were twins! I had the exact same outfit, including the hood under the helmet.

Took metro today due to some logistics involved with a meeting after work for one of my classes. I feel like an empty shell of myself already. Metro was as smooth and efficient as is humanly possible this morning, but it was still a soul sucking experience. It would have been a gorgeous day to ride, too… :(

I can’t resist. The trail traffic was light, the trails were almost all dry and the salt and other snow related debris was completely absent.

Open wound, insert salt. Thanks, dbb. ;)

My pleasure! Actually the salt would be a problem as most was washed from the trails during the rain yesterday.

We must have been on different trails (or at least at different times). I saw lots of cyclists out this morning. FYI the W&OD from EFC Park to the Custis intersection had numerous ice patches where water runs across the trail. It was especially bad at EFC Park.
