ParticipantI removed my brake cables and brought them into the office. They are oozing Carolina mud right now. I’ve wiped/lubed/wiped/repeat on each one and should be good to go to ride this afternoon. I guess I will need to change out my cables here soon. Psyched for the ride home this evening (or maybe just a ride around the parking lot to get my mile in).

ParticipantDoing small errand rides to get at least some points for my Freezing Saddles team. Luckily the bank was closed so I got double the miles from having to go back!
I came up with an idea while riding with the big metal boxes. Winter Cylist Service! Carry snow brushes in your pannier, then charge people to brush off their back windows when stopped at stoplights. I guess the cagers are too weak and frail to brush off their windows so they can actually see while driving, so i’m thinking setup my iphone with that square app to take credit card payments and make a little bit of side money! Winter version of windshield cleaners!

ParticipantWas that one of you carrying a child in a trailer across the intersection of doom this morning? (hozn?) That was adorable.

Not I yesterday — and my trailer is actually empty in the AM; I just drop it at school for afternoon pickup. But today is a car day; I may risk my own health and wellness at times, but when the kid gets sick life sucks for everyone

ParticipantWhere was everybody today???
Very light on the Custis between ~6:30 and 7:00. Didn’t even see anybody in Rosslyn. Thought everyone would be out in force to celebrate the return of warm weather.January 9, 2014 at 2:36 pm #990669consularrider

I saw way more today than I have almost any day since the new year. I think it might have been the first day with double digit number of cyclists encountered on the way to work, so…

Not an answer to your question, but it seems a propos nonetheless.

ParticipantThe Cold made me feel like a sissy
Scared from my bike, I did throw a big hissy
But today wasn’t so bad
For I was warmfully clad
But still they’ll ask “He’s not hardy now, is he?”January 10, 2014 at 12:41 pm #990806SilverSpring
ParticipantThis morning, though, wasn’t so nice
And I didn’t have to think twice
About skipping what I like
(Riding to work on my bike)

ParticipantMore ice than you may think. Fell and did a James Bond slide for about 15 feet on the airport overpass. I also fell again walking back to my bike. Tried to do a loop around Haines point but fell on Ohio Ave turnaround, so even the streets have ice. The Roosevelt s-curve had ton of ice and had to be walked. Surprisingly the custis overpasses didn’t have ice, or at least i didn’t notice.
It is funny, but i have fallen so many times since FS started that it has become passé.January 10, 2014 at 1:45 pm #990814hoffsquared
Participant@ 7:15 am the WOD from Carlin Springs to Shirlington was wet but not icy. Exception being the bridges. FMRT from Shirlington to MVT another story. Patches of slush on the concrete portion of the trail right near Shirlington. Big white paint stripes at intersections also a bit slippery. I am glad it is supposed to warm up today.
