Among GWMP commuters, there’s a common refrain: “Under normal conditions, it’s generally an easy, quick road to commute on. But if one little thing goes wrong, it’s the worst road in the region to be on.”
Today looked to be the latter….so glad I don’t commute on it anymore.
I pity the fool ….

I believe there was a car fire at Spout Run.
Riding past all those slow moving tin cans, I saw a bald eagle high in a tree along the MVT. Always a good start to the morning.

ParticipantCommute was lovely, except something was up with either my eyes or NWS this morning, because I could have sworn it said 36 degrees, but it was definitely 10 degrees colder than that. Been at work 2 hours and still trying to warm up. My layering strategy is well honed from years of commuting, but it does rely on my getting the temp right. :p

ParticipantHey – do you commute into NoMA?

ParticipantI made use of these for the first time this morning and LIKE THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER, the two large SUV’s arresto momentumed! It was a magnificent and supremely satisfying moment.

Please let the NPS know on their comment page (there is a link on the HAWK light discussion).

ParticipantWhy Vulcan? Why? Why have you fore shaken me oh great forger of thy tire? I know now the Four flats in three days is my punishment for making this post last week
“I have a couple thousand on them, a couple fondos that have gravel sections, and I commute on pretty high traffic roads, so glass covered shoulders are often my friend. No flats, except for the one I jinxed myself for tomorrow.“
‘The walk of shame’ this morning (dried glue/no tube) is a reminder to never comment on another tire thread except to remark upon your greatness.P.s., both tires, different spots, psi fine.

ParticipantLight was out at Penn and 15th late this morning with no one to direct traffic. Surprisingly, things were moving along in a pretty orderly fashion when I went through. Many thanks to all the cars who let cyclists slip across all four lanes into the cycle track.

ParticipantWas lovely after far too long off any bike, and really too long off my skinny tire bike. Yellow bike, how I missed thee.
The fact that car traffic was HORRIBLE was a schadenfreude bonus. However, I wish traffic reporters would remind drivers to (1) not block the crosswalk if they can help it; and (2) if they’ve gotten caught in the box or crosswalk on a red light, to LOOK before they start moving again. Gah.

ParticipantFastest commute ever for me this morning.
Pros:
1) my fastest commute ever!
2) obviously I’m obeying rule #5 and/or #10Cons:
1) it’s a commute, not a race
2) I had been looking forward to going for a longer distance commute today, but running incredibly late turned it into a shorter time commute. (That said, what can you do but turn it into a challenge? Now that I think of it, make that #3 on the Pros list.)

ParticipantIsn’t it a Cat 6 bylaw that it’s only a race as long as you are winning?

ParticipantWhy lie, sometimes I find it amusing when someone passes me on the straightaway and then I pass them on the proceeding uphill stretch. I can almost hear them huffing and puffing to be first to something and growing frustrated that I climbed faster than them on my crappy bike
. It’s like a reverse Cat 6 mentality. The funny part is I think I’m going slowly up those hills.

Actually, it’s a race with well established rules, an entire pecking order, and even a Twitter handle.

Given my frankenbike, my FCN is a little difficult to ascertain, but I’m somewhere between 10 and 12. What’s yours?

One setup is a 14 (normal daycare day.) The other setup is a 0 (on a workout day)
