That’s what I thought when I bought the Bikekinetic jersey last summer. I really like the Green Lizard design, but its shade of green is too dark for me – gets lost in the summer folliage when I would be wearing an SS jersey.

Yeah, I do wish it was brighter. I think they should do a green interpretation of this: http://www.elevengear.com/hi-viz-cycling/coral-snake-jersey/coral-snake-jersey-men-s-fluorescent.html — They could keep the cool branding on there and it would be awesome for commuters and the scale effect would be very distinct (well other than the Coral Snake jersey itself :)). I’ll recommend it next time the owner is there on coffee morning.

Light rain, but I was prepared for that (except I don’t get fenders installed on the new bike until I stop by the LBS on my commute home!), and the temp seemed stable. I guess I’m just lucky.

I didn’t feel so lucky on the way home(!), but I did get my fenders on.

I didn’t mind the rain, even in jeans, but then I had to stand there cleaning off my bike while fresh cookies beckoned. The torture!

A rare Saturday AM commute as I have to support a meeting of the national board of my employer organization. A chilly start to the morning compared to recent days. Temps in the 30s with a brisk northerly headwind. Lots of people out on the trail, joggers and cyclists, or so it seemed, for 7 AM on a Saturday given the weather. I did get lots of friendly unsolicited good mornings, all of which I responded to in kind naturally. It was nice touch to the commute. Looking forward to a tailwind-powered mid-day commute home shortly…

So, it may be right at freezing when I leave tomorrow. Multi-trail tires or studs to play it safe? What are others doing?

I mounted my studded tires on my old rigid mtb this morning in preparation to ride out to Reston. Then I went back to sleep. Which bike I ride in the morning will depend on what happens over the next eight hours.

I’m hoping that things aren’t too dicey looking for my regular tires, because my studded tires are from my old 700c bike, and my new ride is a 26 incher.

Studs. They’ll likely stay on until the beer runs green. What’s another 2 pounds of rotating mass, anyway, but a means to honoring rule #5?

The ride in on the Custis wasn’t too bad, except for the overpasses, which were frighteningly horrible. Lots of branches down too. The TR bridge was a mile long slush ride, which was kinda fun, but I couldn’t imagine doing it on slicks.

This was exactly my experience (the overpasses are apparently made out of some sort of magical cold-retaining substance) except I was on slicks and somehow managed to make it over Key Bridge without falling. I think next time I’m going to just take the roads.

It’s a good thing we got that rain. Last night, almost everything near me (Ballston area) was covered in what seemed like a sheet of ice.

Here’s an explanation of why the overpasses are always the coldest: http://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/climate-weather/atmospheric/question566.htm

    You raise a good point.
It’s not bad enough to need studs more than occasionally. Almost easier to just ride on the road and not deal with switching things out.
