Was rather warm. Last night the forecast said it would be 34°, it wasn’t, and I was way over dressed.
Indeed. Much warmer than advertised. Sucked to have to come back to work this morning after the nice long weekend, but since 95% of my cycling miles come from commuting, at least I’m riding again!
Though to be honest, I did get out on Friday just for funsies to burn off some Turkey Day calories with my son in tow… it was a nice 15 mile ramble around Alexandria.

I also achieved August-level sweat this morning owing to over-layering. No matter how much of my spandex burrito layers I shed, no comfort was had.

ParticipantAfter a little over a month of metro due to a knee injury I’ve finally built back up to fullish commuting strength. Last week was commuting to metro (easy 4 mile round trip). No knee pain at all. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be back to my glorious 30 mile round trip! See you on the trails!

ParticipantGreat ride in this morning. I was clipped in again for the first time since my bike was stolen in the spring, thanks to the gift of new SPD pedals from my wife for one of our anniversaries last night.
Hooray, hooray, hooray for SPDs! Felt nice to be even more connected to the bike again.
(I had just been using an old pair of Nashbar MTB cage pedals I had kicking around with plastic toe clips and straps on them since they were functional and I had other uses for the occasional $30-40 to spend on stuff for the new rig.)

ParticipantAs I was setting out this morning, I felt a little play in my fork this morning and remembered someone posted about a catastrophic failure. Unscrewed the cap and the star fangled nut was bent to hell (torque wrench just jumped to #1 on the wishlist) and it pretty much just plopped right out. Since I was kinda late, the drive in wasn’t that bad.

Is your steerer metal or carbon?

Metal. I think I’ll just bring the fork or the entire bike to the LBS and have them install a new nut. I’ll go the DIY route next time.

ParticipantIt was surprisingly toasty this morning – I stopped before the 14th St bridge to take off my beanie & glove liners. Hopefully it stays warm tonight as I’ll be riding back late.
I had a squirrel bounce off my spokes which was a bit exciting… three of them ran across the path at the same time and I decided holding my line was the best plan of survival.

ParticipantBack on the trails for my first full commute in weeks. The Garmin conked out and won’t find a satellite signal anymore and almost ran over half a dozen trail ninjas on the way home. Other than that it was a great return to commuting!

ParticipantHomeless Guy was back out in his usual spot under the 4MRT bridges tonight – he’s got a black sleeping bag now so he’s extra tricky to see.

ParticipantI registered for the forum today because I couldn’t resist chiming in on this thread (and it’s a great forum, generally!). I only started commuting (Falls Church to Vienna) in September, but this morning was my first commute on my brand new Cannondale Quick. It added 1.5 mph to my average speed, and knocked a couple minutes off my travel time. Magical! I can’t wait for tomorrow’s ride!

My wife says I have already “dorked it up” by putting the rack on the back, and it doesn’t have its fenders yet! Such is the life of a commuter…
