ParticipantI took Metro this morning because I didn’t feel like getting all wet just to be at the office for three hours. Now I’m feeling like a big wimp. At least the Green line was running smoothly.

You were one of the very few riders I saw out there! Not sure I remember the last time it was so empty on the trails.

ParticipantSo, everyone here saw only a few riders this morning. I was out and I saw DCV and one other rider on the WOD/Custis…. it was dark but I am guessing Kayak or TwoWheels, or Consularrider

ParticipantLet’s see, I saw a total of nine people (including myself) on my usual extended commute route. Four of those were regular forum members at HDCC. Four of the other five were “Bobs,” and the last was someone I occasionally see. I don’t think I saw Dickie (or at least he didn’t register), I was wearing a bright yellow rain cape, so I would have been hard to overlook. And as TwoWheelsDC said, it wasn’t bad out this morning, almost nothing was coming down from the sky by the time I turned onto the MVT from the 4RT.

ParticipantSaw one rider on the WOD between East Falls Church and Shirlington, and zero riders between Shirlington and Jefferson Memorial.
The wind really picked up by the time Dana and I left HDCC. I think I went about 3 mph up Gravelly Point. I can usually do 6 or even 7 mph.

Just be glad you weren’t wearing a sail into that gusty wind!

ParticipantWere it not for the 25 mph headwind, this would have gone down as one of the best commute mornings of the fall. I liked the clouds and the lack of rain. It was way nicer than I had expected when I last looked at the forecast yesterday.
Of course my rosy view of the commute today was probably colored by the fact that I was back on a bike and not sitting idly on a metrorail car. Thank you, Bruce! The bike rides like new!
EDIT: I meant to note that, like others, I saw only two other people on bikes this morning on my ride in, and I didn’t see them until I got all the way to the 14th St Bridge, where I also saw the results of what must have been quite a wreck, with an SUV on its side facing the wrong way with a smashed up windshield in the exit ramp to go from 395 south to GWP towards the airport. There were five or six police cars, an ambulance, and a firetruck still on the scene. Snarled traffic heading into VA, cuz you know, no one is trying to get to the airport today. The traffic there was quite the contrast to the relatively lonely commute I was experiencing.

ParticipantSaw one rider this morning near TR Island – had a healthy mustache. Otherwise, only other trail inhabitants were the turkey-addled, pumpkin puffed, denizen of Rue Second Helping. Is there such a thing as the “jog of shame?”

ParticipantDid I have a pfunk sighting? My stache was accessorized with a red bike, red jacket, and black knickers.

Yep. I was sporting a similar, ninja-friendly, all-black ensemble.

ParticipantT’was only a morning commute because I left work at 11:59:45PM. I also discovered that not all systems appreciate vigorous use of the bitshift-right operator:

ParticipantWas rather warm. Last night the forecast said it would be 34°, it wasn’t, and I was way over dressed.
