Also..what is this “Rule#5” people keep mentioning???

It’s a mental illness. Dont stand too close to the people who keep uttering it over and over and over and over or you might contract it as well. The cure is lengthy and involves deprogramming (sorta like Clockwork Orange). My recommendations is to go on a nice bike ride during a wonderful day to a coffee house, enjoy yourself, and realize that the reason your are riding a bicycle is cause it is fun.

Rule 6. If you aren’t having fun, stop.

Basically, don’t be a wuss. I’m refraining from the actual language, but the link will clarify that for you.

Saw this right before the Lee Hwy bridge over I-66.

Then I stayed at the Rosslyn pit stop too long and got the chills. Thank goodness for the warm shower at work!

I tried to go under the train tracks in the corner of Lake Artemesia at ~7:20 am. There was water, but I thought I’d give it a try. Three seconds in, both wheels were completely under water…

I hung out at the College Park stop before riding in with my co-worker. We got to Freedom Plaza around 9:15 and almost everything was broken down…

I got my BTWD shirt though!

So glad I rode today! The rain wasn’t half as bad as I was expecting, and it was so cool to see all the other brave souls at the Rockville Town Square pit stop!

Nice! I got to Rockville around 7:10 and hung around for about 15 minutes. In the end, it really wasn’t a bad ride at all. I’ve ridden through much worse. Light rain only. No wind. No flooding on my alternate route (avoid Bradley Ave!!) and no problems on the CCT at all. I think we (or at least I) got lucky w/ the timing of the storm with the worst blowing out by about 6:30-7am.

I ended up hitting four pit stops: Rockville. Bethesda. Georgetown and Freedom Plaza (pics on IG). Fun stuff.

Great work and effort by all the volunteers! I definitely would rather be riding than standing around all morning.

My co-worker (lives in Gaithersburg) who I was going to shepard on his first bike to work commute bailed but we’re going to have a makeup day for him next week.

This also marks my one year anniversary of becoming a legit bike commuter. Bike to Work 2013 got me going and showed me what’s possible. 6,000 miles later I’m addicted.

At the corner of Quincy/Wilson Blvd, I swear that was Dickie who gave me a thumbs up as he headed onto Quincy while I was waiting at the light to turn onto Wilson Blvd to get to the Ballston pit stop.

Yep, that was me… good to see you this morning!

In Tyson’s it is blue sky with a few wispy high clouds. Lovely day for a bike ride

Sorry I missed you! The swag and ankle-deep puddles distracted me.

Am I the only one who got one of these shirts?

My wife got the BTWD shirt from the same stop. It’s cool that I got the alternate shirt (even though I don’t take Metro to work)!

Is that from east falls church?

Somehow I missed that station. But it appears there will be one this afternoon also in the area, but not hosted by WMATA. Oh well.

After a very long couple months at work (which ended yesterday — happy dance), the family was not recovered enough to get out early this morning. We made it for the tail end of Rosslyn, and it was great to see so many smiling, friendly faces.

I also wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all the pit stop volunteers, and an extra high five to all of the volunteers who talked up Kidical Mass Arlington. It’s really awesome that family biking, and especially Kidical Mass, has so much support from the cycling community around here. Thank you.

And we may have a ton of people at the Kidical Mass Arlington ride to Taste of Arlington this Sunday, meeting at 11am at Lacey Woods Park. We’d love for you to join us. Especially if you’ll be alone on your bike and are willing to help shepard the kidical masses and/or take pictures.
