ParticipantYeah I was thinking of you guys when I saw all the debris and all the traffic lights out. Incidentally, a bike is a great way to scout around for a cell phone signal.

ParticipantJust got power back about 45 mins ago. No one in my household has a smartphone and we had no cell signal anyway. It was an interesting 24 hours, but still much easier than say, riding 200 mi… I did ride 0.5 mi to the closest hilltop in order to get a cell signal, and my 20 points.

The sun started getting to me by West Falls Church – but I was pretty close to home. Stopped twice to refill my water bottle with tepid fountain water. UPSIDE – NPS put out a sprinkler by the Lincoln Memorial – nice.
I threw my filled water bottle in the freezer at work 1 hr before I set out. Nice idea, I thought to myself, but halfway home it was already warm.
I saw at least 5 other cyclists, and around the same number of joggers.

ParticipantI wonder if there’s any places near my work I can pop-out for lunch to watch the end of a stage… I only know soccer places. I have the DVR set up in any case. Last year I spent quite a bit of time replaying the stages (after avoiding spoilers during the day) while wearing my daughter in a carrier. Somehow the combination with the familiar sounds of the US commentators put her to sleep. Now she’s 1 and too big to do that so I don’t have an easy out to watch…
Previous years I’ve followed most stages live on the official site which does a good job of showing who’s in a breakaway, who’s dropped off the back, etc.
And of course, I’ll be supporting “Cuddles”.

ParticipantJust a note on another place to log your miles for July:
http://www.waba.org/blog/2012/06/track-your-trips-in-july-to-help-raise-10k-for-waba/
I started doing this a couple of days ago so I’d remember (hopefully) to do it for July, as the website (2milechallenge.com) appears to only let you log miles on the day you rode them!

I may do the Rev Cycles hill ride then head down there. I’m a glutton for punishment. And beer.
I might try and join up if you do this. The Rev Cycles ride is 6pm and not too long – a 7:30pm Happy Hour arrival is reasonable I think. The $2 brews are all night anyway.

I went today and forced myself on others — they graciously accepted. It was nice to meet dbb, vvill, and DismalScientist, as well as some BikeDC folks.
Nice to meet you too. I was wondering if you were the same Shawn as here!

ParticipantI would love to be able to wear one shirt from home to work, at work, to home. Some of these look really close to being suitable for that (although they cost 2x-3x what I normally spend on a shirt!)
Not that it isn’t gross/sweaty to be wearing the same shirt all day but the office a/c in the summer is typically frigid (technical fabrics dry really fast) and there are non-cyclists at work who have more sweat on them coming out of metro. 99% of my work interactions are with inanimate objects anyway.

ParticipantMy kids loved Yards Park (mostly the pool) when we went for Tour de Fat but getting there with kids by bike is tough (and the alternatives aren’t too much fun). I might be able to do a mostly drive – part bike trip there though. I’ll have to experiment. I’ve never tried hauling both kids at the same time.

ParticipantI’m using REI branded lip balm I got free from Bike to Work Day. Seems to work fine.

Friday Coffee Club is a lot like the Bike Arlington crew, only its the DC crew. A lot of the twitter #bikedc people show. I have thoroughly enjoyed both. I think there was a #fridaycoffeeclub hash tag. Peter goes. I go. VVill goes. Who else from Bike Arlington?

Maybe the “feature” that keeps Dirt from showing up as local is a way to keep the race fair.
Anybody that can get to platinum each month is out of my league! Well done, Pete!
I’m confused, where are you looking? If I click on Leaderboard > Communities
I see
Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV
(currently #76)
and Dirt is #7 for June, #1 for May and #1 for “Entire period”. consularrider and Greenbelt are also in the top 10.@creadinger 23770 wrote:
I’m bringin up the rear on the Bees, but I have 1850 miles on the year, which is about 200 miles ahead of where I need to be on this date for my annual goal, so things are going very well.
I set a sort-of-goal/estimate in my head of 3000 miles this year (last year I did maybe 1300mi but only started riding seriously from July), but I’ll be at 2900 by the end of this month!
