Correct. Leave these in place and add some English language versions.

FYI, Alexandria staff say that the signage was a response to complaints received. :-(

So you’ve already been in touch? That saves me an email!

And your suggestion is to add some English language signs too?

Why are all of the new Bike Arlington / Walk Arlington PAL signs telling cyclists to yield to pedestrians only in Spanish (“Ceda El Paso” etc.)?

    Got a photo?

Sounds like boulders will be added on either side of the entrance. Hope that helps!

But why doesn’t Bike Arlington ever engage the services of Top Women in any of its projects?

The Top Women always seem to get their projects right the first time!

I don’t think a training program is going to help. Starting in elementary school, I was picked last for every sports team, ever. This was particularly embarrassing because the guy picked just ahead of me had never quite recovered from polio.

As mentioned above, there are genetic issues plus a slow bike. And as optimistic as this guy wants to be about fitness over 50, there are inherent limitations. After all, you don’t see people in pro sports, who get the best training possible, still doing it at my age.

You’ve got to be kidding! I’m bicycling 25 miles a day, and have lost about 40 lbs., and I’m lucky if I can manage 10 mph. (And my speed has not really improved as my fitness has; I’ve just become able to go the same speed for longer.)

My bike is built for sturdiness, ability to carry things, and ability to handle ice and snow, not speed. I’m 63 years old. And I’ve always had a lot of endurance, but no speed. (Genetic testing says I have almost no fast twitch muscle fibers.)

Getting up to 20 mph is just not an attainable goal for some of us.

Maybe look into some of Joel Friel’s stuff if you’re serious about it: https://www.velopress.com/books/fast-after-50/#toc

From my inbox, Top Men report:

“We moved the tape and cones that blocked the push buttons, but I’ll have to say that there will be a lot changing out there over the next 6 months as we are upgrading the signal. Additional ped areas will follow but those may not get done til the Spring. We also have Washington Gas working on the north side of the intersection for the huge gas main replacement that will last at least another 9 months (this is really big because it is the main that serves Arlington, DC, Alexandria, and Falls Church).

We also have a project in the design stage to improve the trail on the south side of Arlington Blvd between S Irving and S Fillmore, but construction on that is farther away.”

Does anyone know if the barriers separating the sidewalk on the bridge over 4MRT from the general travel lanes on Mt Vernon Ave, are going to remain after the wetlands work is done and the detour is history?

I don’t think they are intended to stick around, but I mentioned it the Arlington folks already.

You should definitely bring it up with the BPAC.
