Team Slacker challenges Team 69 to a Day One ride off. Team with the most miles on the first day wins. Let’s make this interesting. Humm. How about a bottle of Virginia Single Malt?

Okay, let the bidding begin for my allegiance. ;)

And pay no attention to the people trying to exclude whole countries. There is a good deal of good natured ribbing around here. The ones trying to exclude particular countries merely know that some of our past players who rack up a lot of miles live in those countries, and are trying to secure a better ranking for their own teams by excluding those people. No one takes that seriously.

Thought you said the Slackers were not a team…?

Everyone deserves the opportunity to spend their final days at home with family, and it pisses me off so f*cking much that this isn’t a basic human right in this country.

I echo this. (And also donated, you should too if you have not already.)

The official regulations for the C&O Trail say that audible warning must be given “100 feet” before passing other users. At 15 mph (or 22 feet per second, the NPS’s speed limit) if takes over 4 seconds to cover 100 feet. Dinging the bell or bellowing “on your left” 4-5 seconds before overtaking would not be very effective.

    Why not?

I like to give plenty of warning before I overtake another trail user (granted, this was in the before times, when I actually rode on a trail). You can give another warning as you are closer, if the other trail user does not hear you or acknowledge you. Easy-peasy. :)

It also came with space for 3 water bottle cages in the triangle, BUT I have no idea how on earth you’d actually fit 3 water bottles, since the 2 along the down tube are very close together…

I am SO jealous that you were able to fit the 56. I tried, because I wanted those three cage mounts, but alas, it was just a smidge too big.

To fit three bottles, you need to use shorties (20 ounce) in the down tube cages. You may also need side load cages, but I run those anyway.

Congrats on the new bike! Because you got the larger size, my friend Laurie got the 54.5. We can all be Warbird buddies!

Around here I didn’t see more cyclists on the roads but vehicle speeds went up.

Where the heck do you live? There are SO many more cyclists out on the roads in Falls Church and Arlington. It has been quite refreshing to see, actually.

It was too rough to ride with a hybrid with front and seat suspension. Some example: every 10 feet there is a 90 degree turn to a steep or a rocky 10 feet, for horses to jump to, or hikers, and the list go on. There is a CCT marker to tell you where the trail is, but there are too many paths cleared by people to their houses and they look in a better shape than the trail, so I followed them and ended up going in circles. Here is an example short video:

He is going downhill mostly, but imagine going the other way.

None of that is actually the CCT. All of that was in Lake Fairfax proper, which is single track trails. Most (if not all) of the CCT is doable on a CX/Gravel bike.

A little late to the party… There was a cross race held there last year. :)
