ParticipantLike ronwalf suggested, I wear a walz cap a lot. I don’t have the ear flap ones, just the normal. I know it’s not local, but their caps are awesome and I love mine. Just my two cents.

The GPS should be independent of the WiFi else I could not record a GPS track in “Airplane mode.” A device with GPS should know where it is at all times, but this will be worthless if a good street level maps is not available outside of WiFi range. I don’t know if you can download an appropriate map for this application.
Are you saying that you could use strava on the iphone in airplane mode? I did not know that. So it’ll just track your GPS route, and then later at some point you could link to wifi or 4g to upload the track?

ParticipantI took June. Not sure where yet. I’m thinking somewhere downtown but near the river to help those that live in DC and MD. Near the river should be easy for VA commuters as well. Circa in Foggy Bottom is my first thought but I’ll think a bit more.

Bottom line: If you want an all Pink happy hour, located in your ‘hood, that takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of the Third Month after a full moon when Congress is in session – dont talk about it – volunteer to do it.
I think that’s what I’m trying to do on the Social Calendar Thread. I am trying to provide a thread for folks to volunteer to take one of the Thursdays throughout the summer and provide a location. This way, Kathy doesn’t have to set up every Thursday thru the whole summer, and each month, we’ll have a different location to visit.
Does this work for everyone? Honestly not trying to step on anyone’s toes, just trying to make it easy to lift the burden off of one person.

Resurrecting this, since my wife was wondering if/when we’re going to resume this hallowed tradition. My vote is for “immediately”, but I know organization takes a lot of time and effort, so I don’t want to rush it. I’m also wondering, now that we’ve had some experience with this, if we should do sort of a “Tour of Arlington” theme, with happy hours in different neighborhoods (insert shameless plug for Westover). Of course, we could include DC as well. I also think we should do some sort of Hains Point picnic/ride at some point. Anyway, just my thoughts…
Westover beer garden would be perfect. We just have to wait for, you know, spring. The spring with the warm temps. I like the rotating idea. If people want, I’ll start a sign up thread where someone can pick a thursday for their neighborhood and be responsible for setting it up. That work?

ParticipantThanks to all who had a hand in BAFS. It was a great idea from the start (Mike), and the hard work of many (Bob, Ron, Hans, Kathy, all the pointless prize givers, and the riders) it was fun all the way thru. Congrats to all on the huge number of miles and smacking winter in the face!
Also, it was great fun to meet so many of you last night, really an enjoyable time. On the way home, I got a Top 10 trophy on Strava. It was kind of windy and I wasn’t riding that fast, so I was very surprised. When I looked at it, I realized only 17 people had rode the segment. That’ll bring you back down to earth.
Finally, how awesome is this spring riding!

Quite a day for sightings on the MVT today, rcannon both coming and going, then baiskeli on the Roosevelt Trollheim, and finally at the intersection of doom our titular character!
I believe I saw you on the MVT boardwalk actually. Orange bike, right?

Nope, no new bike yet, which makes it even more annoying.
The “like” button would literally explode and the “covet” thread would spontaneously combust if Kel got a new bike.

I could definitely meet someone at the 14th St Bridge pretty much any time. On the early side is better for me.
I’ll probably be hitting 14th St. Bridge around 440. We can meet by the CaBi Station right there if you’d like. I do know where we are going.

From what I can tell, hozn’s leaderboard only includes those who are signed up on a team (55 people), plus Dirt. The overall one on ronwalf’s has everyone in the BikeArlington Strava club.
And agreed, it is awesome.
Gotcha. Thanks! I didn’t realize the overall leaderboard had anyone not on a team not named Pete. I guess I should have checked closer.

Of course would be happy to have someone double check my queries!
I don’t know anything about all of this coding, but I did have one quick question…..I noticed that the overall individual leaderboard is different on your site and the official leaderboard. Any reason that some of the folks are missing on yours? I like it, because my overall standing is better, but just curious.
By the way, all the data is awesome. I’ve enjoyed looking thru it all!

I saw a guy going up the GWP outside OT late yesterday afternoon and it was a light rain–so no reason we couldn’t all do it.
I’m fairly sure it is illegal now to ride any part of the GWP, so while you could probably do parts of it safely, you could also be easily ticketed.
I think just going out and doing it lends itself to turning into a Critical Mass type ride, which has had some good and some bad consequences. The mob mentality can lead to a lot of scofflaw cycling, which goes against a lot of what makes Bike DC so important. Again, just my opinion. I would love if we could somehow set up a Bike Arlington ride in place of this, or even just a local ride with lots of folks if we can find a way to keep it legal.

Me: Fleet footed vigilante
You: First time fixie thief
Next time you attempt to steal a bike, make sure it’s not a fixie. I’ll bet you didn’t expect me to react so quickly when I heard you break the lock on my upstairs neighbor’s bike out in front of our building. You were just mounting the bike when I ran out of the building (without any shoes on, no less) and started chasing you. You just didn’t have the muscle power to accelerate before I caught up to you and grabbed onto the seat, making you lose your balance and fall. And you certainly were drawing attention to yourself as you kept cursing me as you ran off.
Finally, only try to steal one bike at a time. You left the other bike behind with its broken lock as you tried to ride off. The police have added it to their collection of recovered bikes.
I believe we found the first person that should be awarded a pink bike forum zipper tag. Well, the second at least…
