Now can I ask for the same barriers for the Route 50 trail, south side from Pershing down past Ft. Myer?

Many on the forum have been on one of my Presidential History Bike Rides and know I love both historical trivia and bikes. After seeing Biden riding a bike in Rehoboth on Saturday, I started looking into Presidents and their relationship with bikes.

I put together a thread on Twitter that’s gotten a lot of attention by bike Twitter and thankfully hasn’t quite caught the attention of the MAGA and neo-Nazi crowd yet. This was quick google research without a lot of validation so buyer beware. I know if two errors: I erroneously stated FDR suffered from polio in childhood. It actually occurred during adulthood. Also the picture of JFK on a bike was photoshopped. It’s actually Sean Connery with JFK’s head.

Judd: There is one more picture from George W.’s time as President- riding with Lance, before Armstrong fell from grace. I believe 2005. Of course there was a Texas connection, besides the bike…

Some of us remember that Mike Hamannwright from Revolution Cycles wound up being the bicycling outfitter to the President during those years.

#dbb: I didn’t remember seeing that drainage gravel when I rode through Saturday for #sizzlingsummercentury! Guess the complex’s groundskeepers got tired of having to buy more mulch. One problem solved ,another created.

That sucks. I’m glad you escaped without (relatively) serious damage, and that you have remained positive. Those wet wooden bridges are more treacherous than some of those rocky trails I mountain bike on! ;)

How did F escape going down? He shoulda warned you! :)

I ran the whole of the Mt. Vernon Trail Saturday for my #sizzlingsummercentury ride. While so many of us are (understandably) fixated on Trollheim by the T. R. Bridge, I wondered how all these other boardwalk-over-wetland sections would be in the wet. I think I know which area you’re referring to- just before Ft. Hunt, with steep and twisty sections between boardwalk.

#Emm, I am grateful for you that even the damage that showed up a day later wasn’t worse. Heal up.

Boardwalk that is *diabolical* when wet. Why should this be? If the Powers That Be say, “this cannot be fixed”, tell them they are *dead wrong*. It has been. Attached, my image of the causeway between Chincoteague and Assateague Island, VA. *Concrete* planks, cast to look like wood. Much better grip, period. P.S. Henry did the full distance without “relief bike”, despite the Sturmey-Archer hub not always wanting to keep the selected gear. BRAVO!!!

Got my laps in with him at both the beginning and end of my ride.

Support for Phoenix has been FANTASTIC! There are just a few days left in this fundraiser. Find your favorite team and support them – and there is even time enuf for you to join.

Henry Dunbar is going to do 100 miles circling around his own neighborhood block because…. actually I have no idea…. check out his STRAVA. HE HAS ACTUALLY BEEN TRAINING THE ROUTE!!! ;)

On a British 3-speed he rescued from being junked! Somewhere on my own ride Saturday, I will take a lap or two with him.

Likewise me. I got a late start and had a misadventure trying to stand up my own race team, but still riding. Bonus- I wound up with #dirt’s favorite race number…again. I remain at https://www.pledgereg.com/3553/williamfuchs. Thank you!

I know many of us wanted the ped/bicycle bridge as an integral part of the new railroad span. Maybe it is better that it be its own span. First, there was the train derailment on a railroad bridge in Harper’s Ferry that knocked out the bicycle/hiker crossing across the Potomac for months. Now this, in Tempe, AZ: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/massive-fire-sparked-train-derailment-arizona-n1235191?cid=sm_npd_nn_fb_ma&fbclid=IwAR06O-VXFejWeMpoF-NXi73mosZRgdioV81UdKXiFuCXOl5bHSE68C0SgQs. Even an empty freight car is quite heavy and will not stop for you.
