    I tried Jumpv1. Loved it.

    I tried JumpvUber. I think I test road maybe 4 bikes. First barely worked :( Second worked :D Third m’eh. Fourth I manually pedaled back to the office. 😡 Jump bikes under Uber… at least the ones I experienced… functioned poorly.

    That is a phenomenal waste. A big BOO HISS on Uber.

    Want a giggle? Look at the bikeshare museum site. Yep, someone decided to try to collect a few of these before they were scrapped. They also found that once fitted with proper pneumatic tires, they do make a serviceable city bike.

    I think it’s still an open question as to how much of their fleet is being scrapped vs. redeployed by Lime.

    Perhaps, but this article claims the JUMP bikes videoed being trashed in a junkyard in N. Carolina are the most deployed 5.5 model, that Uber couldn’t get the replacement 5.8 model bike which is the one loaded with DRM to work, and Uber say they only handed over their newest model bikes to Lime suggesting Lime may have only acquired a much smaller fleet of non-working prototypes, and the working JUMP bikes are being scrapped.

    It is a disgusting waste, as Chaffin pointed out the JUMP model 5.5 ebikes arent the Millenium Falcon but use standard Bafang brand 250w hub motors and generic batteries, at most they simply need the GPS bloatware removing a new controller fitted, and a battery key for the new owner. Uber could have bought a ton of goodwill at relatively low cost if they had chosen to donate the JUMP ebike fleet to essential workers perhaps paying for the conversion by non-profit bicycle co-ops like Phoenix & Velocity.

    JUMP’s revenge on Uber? Or Uber being dicks by handing over unusable bikes to Lime?

    Jump is gone. The need remains. Much overdue good news! ( Look at the picture- that’s a disc brake up front. Problem solved.)

    CaBi+ ebike helped me out in a pinch last night. I rode a Lime Bike from Foggy Bottom to Potomac Park, hoping to end my ride at the dockless scooter/bike rack near the CaBi station at the corner of Ohio Dr/W Basin Dr, but the Lime app on my phone wasn’t happy to end my ride close to the exclusion/no dockless parking zone despite that rack being clearly marked as a “preferred parking spot” with a blue P circle on the Lime operating area map. I rode to another Blue P preferred parking spot near Lincoln Memorial where I had the same problem. I tried emailing/texting Lime Customer Service with no response, then I called the phone number on the bike and managed to speak to someone in customer service who ended the ride, but that was after wasting 40 minutes faffing around trying to end the ride in the Lime app. I was able to snag a CaBi+ ebike I rode up hill to home in Arlington.

    Two take homes from my experience using bikeshare ebikes in DC:
    1) don’t expect the Lime App to work as advertized anywhere around the National Mall, but call them if you get stuck unable to end the ride which racks up the cost at $0.36 per minute;
    2) the cost to me of the Lime fiasco was $20 including the 40 minutes of wasted time, the cost of my 25 minute CaBi+ ride home just $2.50!

    +++UPDATE+++
    Lime refunded me $15 for the wasted time.
