    The street smarts sign is weird. I get the “Look for Cyclists Before Turning” because I’ve almost hit runners and walkers who unexpectedly make a U-Turn or sudden movement left without checking for cyclists. Warnings are important even if you have a light and no one else is around and you feel ridiculous. They’re in their own little world, oblivious to anything else around them or the existence of bikes.

    But the Slow Down part seems directed at cyclists Kinda passive aggressive. It’s YOUR fault we runners/walkers have to check! (How about you don’t suddenly run into the opposing lane without signaling somehow or looking?)

    I thought you’d appreciate the sticker on the right. Where we usually find “bumper stickers” these days.

    3/19/25 bumper sticker

    It actually is hard to find a sticker on the bumper. This was the only one on three streets other than some numbers!

    TIMER

    Streetlights generally operate from dusk to dawn, with the specific timing varying based on location, season, and technology, but they are typically controlled by light sensors rather than timers.

    Here’s a more detailed explanation:
    * Dusk to Dawn Operation:
Streetlights are designed to turn on when it gets dark outside, around sunset, and turn off around sunrise, to improve visibility and safety.

    * Light Sensor Control:
Modern streetlights use light sensors (photocells) to detect the ambient light level and automatically switch the lights on and off, rather than relying on timers.

    * Seasonal Variations:
The timing of streetlights can vary with the seasons. In the summer, when daylight lingers longer, they might turn on later in the evening, while in the winter, with shorter days, they may turn on earlier.

    * Part-Night Service:
Some streetlights are designed to operate only for part of the night, turning off at a predetermined time, which can save energy and prolong the lifespan of the light source.

    * Other Factors:
There can be other reasons why streetlights might be turned off, such as construction, special events, or local jurisdiction decisions.

    I decided to go with what we “figured everyone would (probably do)” because now maybe they wouldn’t.

    Wouldn’t it be cool if they filmed season 4 at Audi stadium with our women’s team? Make it political?!

    LASSO

    When pushed for more details, including whether the new season would see his character come back to the US, Sudeikis said: “That’s too many questions,” adding: “I don’t know.”

    Yes, @Nadine! Is it called The Extra Mile?

    Sign said it was 36 degrees!

    There were big rocks, mooshy mud-like stuff, and at one point I was clinging to a chain-link fence with one hand, holding the bike with the other, and trying to balance on a narrow cliff ravine. I finally went back because it was too dangerous with each step and hung the bike on the locked 7’ or so gate, went back and traversed the fence cliff with both hands/fingers grasping the links.

    Dumb adventure!

    PIECE

    Well, the plan was to stop at Piece Out Del Ray in Alexandria, but the necessity of breaking my ride up into PIECES to properly follow the #parks rules resulted in this major CF at the path to Lock 5 to get to a national park. I missed the “closed” sign and there was nothing blocking the path. The other side was a big mess with a bike and bike shoes.

    Dumb adventure!
