Anyone else playing DSJB (Don’t swallow Japanese beetles) on the MVT by Gravelly Point?
Why would we forgo such an easy source of protein? That’s a hands-free snack right there.

ParticipantIt’s also a lightly travelled trail. Even on Saturday morning, when the W&OD was packed, I only saw one other bike and 6 or so peds between Little River Turnpike and the Vienna metro.

ParticipantMVT by the power plant.

If they aren’t going to use that exit ramp again, why don’t they tear up that pavement and landscape it? I guess this is the forgotten corner of the DCA property.

Maybe they plan on using it again in the distant future. Or maybe the airport/charter service employees who park there now want to be able to keep doing so. There’s always an interest group for the status quo.

Yup. Right at Picket Road. I remember the adventure of riding through there before they closed it.
Rode by there this morning and was hoping that was never actually a tunnel, despite the sign. Looks like a small drainage culvert.
That part of the CCT is really nice. I’m usually the only rider between LRT and Pickett when I ride there.

ParticipantIs that the Maui downhill ride?

ParticipantLogged my first longish ride this morning – 41 miles, or four 10 mile rides logged for the challenge. W&OD was pretty crowded between Vienna and East Falls Church, 4MR and MVT less so. Edsell Road was deserted, and also crappy for riding.
The bad part was two flats within 30 minutes of each other.
Oh, and you folks are very bad influences on me.

ParticipantWe’re already at 3080 trips in the first week?!

50 states and 13 colonies? Why the redundancy?

This whole 4-way stop thread has me thinking that many of these intersections would be better served with roundabouts.
That way people can have no idea what to do year round, rather than just when the power goes out. Driven on Washington Circle lately?

ParticipantThe cones at Jefferson were there this morning, but in a (to me) reasonable place. That is, not in the crosswalk coming off the bridge, and along the edge of the adjacent crosswalk. Also, the sidewalk and both traffic lanes are open, but some of the patchwork on the sidewalk is temporary.

ParticipantI almost missed logging yesterday’s rides. I’m using the Bike Brains app that’s tied to the contest, but still needed to press the “share” button after my ride (I thought it would be automatic, until checking the site today).

Anyone heading here from downtown DC and want to make sure I don’t get lost on the MVT? I’ll be leaving from L’Enfant Plaza.
I could ride with you from Jefferson Mem to 4MR, but I’m probably not going to the happy hour.

ParticipantWhat’s over there of interest, by the way? I’ve never gone there.

ParticipantWell that wasn’t too bad, though I’m glad it was only eight miles. The odd thing was my seat post falling apart as soon as I stepped off my bike.
