I even went out and got new kit in honor of the event! (Well, OK, a jersey & socks)

    It’s quite pro, as you’ll see :D

Still wearing the mushroom hat & the giant bugeye shades though.

    I wore my kung-fu t-shirt. It’s my daughter’s favorite. Also, pro.

I talk to strangers on the interwebs more, and I had to shorten my belt.

It looks like I’m going to have both on this Saturday. I’m going to have a team group ride from 8:30 to 11, BBQ cook out with a lot beers until 3 PM. Hopefully, I will be sober by 6:00 PM for this ice cream ride.

Man, BBQ’s my third. The other two are money and blood pressure (which also correlate with the other three).

If you get another flat, before you remove the tube, mark the tube in relation to the wheel and tire. Tank it if you have to to verify if it’s a slow leak then go from there. A magnifying glass might help.

Thanks. I always mount the valve stem in the center of the tire logo so I know where to check the closest for sharps.

With all three flats I found the puncture pretty easily-they weren’t slow.

He’s perfect — looks like he can fit in a pannier no problem.

Any burrs in the rim that might rub things the wrong way? Try a round of electrical tape on top of the rim tape.

I don’t think so, but that sounds worth a try. Thanks!

My ice cream intake is one of my top 5 reasons for riding. Beer intake is another.

I just signed up for Strava after using mapmyride for the past few months. What’s the etiquette on following people, especially those you only know online?

Familial obligations have been lifted from my shoulders Thursday evening, so it looks like I’ll be joining in the fun.

Anyone notice the large uptick in horseflies? I think that’s what they are. They are really, really big. Often seen near the communal gardens on the WO&D in Arlington near Phoenix Bikes.

The ones that bite? I had the pleasure of meeting them during each of my two tire changes Saturday morning.

I think a mushroom helmet and giant bug-eye shades sounds perfect. Stick with what you’ve got.

Does Terpfan wear a UMD kit and ride a chrome and blue CX? I seek him nearly every day, but only briefly b/c he passes pretty quickly.

I wonder if bike commuters have reached critical mass here that if we did all choose a day to drive to work if it would really make a noticeable difference. Would be very cool if we could bring about total gridlock. That would certainly get people’s attention!

The differences between a good driving day and a bad driving day are so random and unpredictable that it would be impossible to chalk it up to any one event like adding a couple thousand bike commuters to the mix. I’ve flown to work on a rainy Tuesday morning in September and been stuck in traffic during a sunny, mid-August congressional recess.
