ParticipantHad not thought of it that way, but in a manner of speaking, yes. When cycling is no longer something of a fringe activity… after all, difficult to find “just walking” forums, isn’t it?
The subcultures will always exist, and there will be forums for those, of course.
Then again, my intention in sharing the video was showing the development away from a car-centric culture…

ParticipantThere should be a law against treating a frame like that in such a manner. 😮

ParticipantSPIDERS?! [Runs out of room screaming like a little girl.]
Reason number 1 I have mountain biked a handful of times in my life.

ParticipantShould be joining at the Coffee Club I location in DC. Will anyone be there?
Look for the guy with the blue Kona and the dorky white and orange helmet.

ParticipantOn my commute home I often ride the 15th street bike lane southbound. The lane ends at the intersection of 15th and Penn (or rather, there is an arrow there and what would be the bike lane is taken up by food trucks all the way to Constitution/Pennsylvania).
At rush hour, the light at 15th and Constitution/Pennsylvania ensures that the cars are bumper to bumper. I “filter” through to the light, and then proceed to get on the sidewalk paralleling 15th next to the Washington Monument and the Holocaust Memorial.
I do this because the one time I tried to ride that portion of sidewalk took forever and was, frankly dangerous for myself and all of the pedestrians.

Thanks – how about some cycling contacts? I met with a Ukrainian studying at the University of Maryland as a Fullbright Scholar last year, and he used to be involved with the Kyiv cycling association, but had been out of contact for a couple of years. Most of the info I find online is either in Ukrainian or Russian.
No idea, but some of my Ukrainian friends might know people who know people?

ParticipantLet me know if you need some civil society contacts – worked in Ukraine for the better part of the last four years.

ParticipantAnother great commute. Got on the Custis right behind Mr. SpeedRacer, so he politely drafted me to the Rosslyn intersection. Weather hotter than the past few days, but the wind was not bad.
Took the longer commute in, have to up my mileage to keep up with all of you guys with your hyper-long commutes!

ParticipantEvening commute was very pleasant. Added two laps of Hains Point, where I was passed, as if standing still, by multitudes of cyclists…
More miles, more miles, more miles. Then I shall return for my revenge.
Very pleasant evening ride – windy but not at all bad.

ParticipantHey!
I ride a Cervelo.
Powerful Pete
ParticipantWell I am quite impressed by the mileage numbers people are running up.
Makes me afraid to ride with you people fitness wise!
Kudos to all!

ParticipantIt’s perfectly safe even if the undead ride. It takes them forever to clip and unclip from their pedals.

ParticipantThanks for starting the new thread, apologies for [slightly] derailing this one!

ParticipantOk then, as I asked the question, still working on different routes for my commute, but it is currently in the ~17 mile per day (round trip), so that would be 85 miles per work week.
Have to map out how to add a wee bit of riding at Hains Point when I am feeling frisky to push the mileage up.
Not yet rebuilt the road bike from the move, but would hope to get in at least a 40-60 mile ride per weekend once I am a bit more fit.
I find that I can ride every day, but it does wear on me. So if I work up to riding both weekend days will have to cut out one commuting day.
