ParticipantWonderful commute this evening. Very enjoyable with the absence of any wind at all.
Was rider #433 at the monolith at the intersection of doom. Not bad for a rather chilly day today…

ParticipantPleasant commute this evening… apparently tomorrow morning will be even chillier than today! 😮

ParticipantThank you kind sir… all useful information.

ParticipantI would very much like to participate. I was negotiating my new DC based job when I came across the forum and was mightily impressed by the entire FS thing last winter. I want to be one of the cool people with icicle boogers.
I am in. 20~30 km a day of riding, beyond occasional business travel and wussing out due to my ultra-pansiness.
I am a great organizer, if you consider Italians who consider everything as a detail not worth focusing on as someone who is a worthwhile organizer.
But I will do as I am told, more or less.

ParticipantCool picture.
And what pants are you wearing in that picture? I need to upgrade… thinking of Showers Pass, but open to suggestions.
Signing off as a soft cold hating Southern European… 😮

ParticipantBTW, can we all move to my country (Italy) for the rest of the winter? I handled yesterday and today fine, but I miss bundling up the same way I did today back home and complaining about frigid temperatures in the low 50s…

I was 180 something past the counter on my way home yesterday and 158 on my way in this morning. So people are clearly more skeered of rain than freezing temps.
I got up late for unrelated reasons, at around 8:30 the counter at the intersection of doom was at 220 or so…

ParticipantReady for the morning commute today…

ParticipantWet and miserable commute… after almost four weeks of travel and eating too much.
New Castelli rain gear (yes, I am the yellow fluo guy) performed admirably, but a bit unsure of myself on leafy downhill bits… must get my “cycling legs” back again!
Powerful Pete
ParticipantVery sorry to hear about your crash (and see the road rash pictures).
Hope it all gets better quickly. And show off the scars with pride! Hard Rider!

ParticipantFair points. I seem to run into cabs/cars parked in such a manner that my best options are to salmon or ride around the closed off section of the memorial roundabout.
But I do hang my head in shame. Promise to be more courteous in the future…
Powerful Pete
ParticipantThat requires us to be logical and courteous. Two traits that are not only lacking in the car crowd… now all of you get off of my lawn! 😡

quote snipped… However……this is going to be a bit crazy, but……in some instances, it works the other way. Technically, in many “traffic circles,” the people in the circle yeild to those entering. In “roundabouts” it happens the way we handle it. Almost all current ones work the way described previously in the thread, but in much of Europe, France I think in particular, they often used to work the other way around. …quote snipped
All true – in Italy traffic yields coming into the circle, in France it’s the opposite. I notice each time I drive in France that most circles have huge and very legible signs for traffic in the circle that say VOUS N’AVEZ PAS LA PRIORITE (you do not have the right of way) – pretty clear if you ask me. Still needs getting used to (for example, getting off the ferry from Italy and driving through Bastia in Corsica… causing massive traffic jams as I wait to enter a circle and traffic backs up in the circle waiting for me to enter)… :o:rolleyes:
Or rather… it happened to a friend of mine… no really.

ParticipantI do the salmon thing if there is no traffic… honestly the straight away is long enough (in terms of seeing oncoming cars) that it is easier and probably safer than negotiating the 90 degree turn on to the sidewalk.
A fix would most probably be problematic – with the tour buses and traffic that stops for the memorial?

ParticipantCastelli Gabba LS full zip jersey. In fluo yellow for safety. Will also force me to lose weight – when I wear it now I look like a human bumblebee.
