I will not be joining the CaBi Jefferson Convoy – will meet directly at the get together.

    Thanks!

Today during my lunchtime sleaze ride I witnessed a rider on road/cross bike go down hard at the corner of 15th and P in DC (where the Whole Foods is located)… he came off the road on to the sidewalk and slid on a rather obvious patch of ice. He was helped up by several bystanders (I was on the other side of 15th Street in the bike lane at the light) and was ok but a bit shaken up.

The point of this story? Please be extra careful out there…

So FS really does funny things to our perception of reality.

I had to metro in again today, but as I walked to the office I excitedly texted my wife: “not so windy today, sleaze ride should be easier and more fun!”. She agreed and reiterated her thinking that I have a few screws loose to be excited about being outside in this weather…

We are not normal… in a pleasant way, of course. 😮

I apologise for my first sleaze ride. Slightly over 5km. I feel dirty.

But it was oh so good.

Last night at around 18:00 the north side sidewalk (upstream, if that makes any sense) of Key Bridge was very well cleared, with the exception of some treacherous ice on the little downhill bit right before the entry ramp to Spout Run. So perfectly rideable with a bit of caution at the end.

Also, M Street in DC was well cleared, north bound, with the exception of the slush mess between the cross streets of Potomac and 34th, IIRC. I took the lane and the drivers were very courteous, but then again there was very little traffic last night.

I apologise for not commuting in to work today. Not feeling very well, and on top of it all have a nagging achilles’ tendon pain that is very bothersome. 😡

Will endeavor to sleaze ride thanks to CaBi… ;)

@ Steve O, thanks for sharing the ride and your snow riding wisdom with a newb.

Made it in to work a bit delayed but just fine. The roughest bit turned out to be Key Bridge – lots of ruts and they had yet to clear it.

The evening ride, as you suggested – up Wilson – was great.

    😎

I LOVE ArlCo parks and rec! Custis was beautifully clear from Rosslyn all the way to EFC. Not only clear but almost totally dry too. A few very minor icey spots but nothing too scary. Such a treat!

Excellent, what time did you ride the trail this evening?

Always surprised (not certain why I should be) at the vitriol reserved for cyclists amongst some of the car crowd…

No issue contributing $5-10. I was granted permission to participate by the Minister of the Interior and Finance, and have been allocated well over double that amount as spending money for the evening. ;)

Whoa. Where I am from, we would all stay inside and declare a national emergency. And no one would come to help because they would all be inside.

And yet I am strangely fascinated by riding in Thursday and possibly freezing my unmentionables.
