Pleasant commute, nice to ride with some sun!

Is it just me or is today particularly chilly and windy?

    As of this AM’s commute:

    1. Custis remains clear, but careful on the bridge over 124 (right after the strip mall with the Italian store and the Giant) … ice melt on the East side of the bridge has refrozen. There is about half of the path that is safe, but keep that in mind this evening on the way home!

    2. Iod was fine. Beyond the cars, that is.

    3. Trollheim was icy/crunchy but I was able to ride about 80% and flintstone the rest.

    4. MVT from Trollheim to 14th Street Bridge is 95% clear, but there are a few largish ice patches to watch out for.

    5. 14th Street Bridge is completely clear and A-ok.

It would appear we are now 8 measly points away from 7th spot in the team standings… we now have the Maryland Inquisition in our sites! 😎

Well yes… but don’t remind me of the patio. My patio needs a major intervention. So I will focus on BAFS for now…

Despite the cold and blustery wind my evening commute was surprisingly pleasant… BAFS is really having its intended effect…

As of around 18:00 this evening:

    1. 14th Street Bridge is 99% clear. Easy ride (minus that wind).

    2. MVT from 14th to Trollheim was a bit wet but virtually no snow/slush/ice.

    3. Trollheim was rideable slush that was getting crunchy.

    4. Custis was wonderful. Thanks again Arlington Co!

Am getting this strange feeling about Phatboing trying to be sneaky vis-a-vis us Busters…

Guys, just noticed we are 4 points behind the Bipolar Bears. If everyone sleazes today we can move ahead of them! 😎

@ Chris_s, yes you are correct, my mistake. I meant Four Mile Run… still getting to know all the names.

Interested in commuting across the 14th Street Bridge, Gravelly Point, Four Mile Run, WOD from Weenie Beenie to Custis. I assume the wooden bridges on the WOD will be treacherous, but the rest?

Can anyone comment on the status of the WOD between Eads Street and the start of the Custis (or I am simply getting confused)?

I believe that the camaraderie, but also the competitive elements help – I know that my riding has definitely been bumped up as I try to get ahead of or catch up with others in the standings. All in good fun, of course. Honestly, there are several days where I would have rathered eat pasta and stay in my PJs but got out and rode to keep myself in the running (my objective is really a top 20 finish considering forthcoming business travel and life’s realities).

So, it’s not really stalking others on Strava, more keeping an eye on their riding and, quite frankly, being inspired to ride more because of what I see in terms of their achievements.

    Late morning update:

    1. Custis from Quincy to IoD is perfectly perfect. Very clear with a bit of melt now, so be careful this evening, but nothing at all of concern. A+ for Arlington Co.
    2. Bridge over Spout Run from IoD to MVT/Roosevelt Island is clear, except for slush on the hairpin. Fine during the day, be careful this evening.
    3. MVT – not clear. All crunch snow/slush. Fine on slicks (I don’t have studded tires) but I would be concerned about this evening’s commute home if temperatures fall.
    4. Trollheim. Beautiful snow, easy to ride today, but will get ugly tonight. Careful!
    5. 14th Street Bridge – slushy but about 50% clear. Should be rideable this evening.

PP – is ccfinger following this thread? Don’t want him to miss out. Tell him to log in at least every couple of days to keep up with goings on.

Lastly, we keep battling it out with those annoying Bears, so try to do at least a sleaze ride every day.

    Will do on both counts!

Pleasant enough commute (which says something about how BAFS changes your perceptions of pleasant)…

Was snowing nicely when I left the house in North Arlington, turned sleety by the time I crossed the 14th Street Bridge.

But all in all only wet roads. Curious about this evening’s commute…
