So just FYI everyone, if a fixed gear rider passes you, you are slow.
Fixed that for you.
But seriously, most of the time, a fixie rider really is just riding their own ride. Has nothing to do with anyone else and everything to do with riding a bike with one gear and no ability to coast.OneEighth

You just summed up the single biggest disconnect on Arlington roads.
That and not having walk signals automatically synched with the corresponding travel signal.OneEighth
ParticipantWD-40 wipe down of the entire bike (excluding seat, handlebars, front brake and front wheel). Once the WD-40 has evaporated from the chain, 3in1 oil.
Cheap and effective.
Every so often, I take a rag and clean every single link.OneEighth

I know, right? Normally I’m only waving at cyclists with one finger when I drive…cuz it’s my sidewalk, too.

ParticipantDickie and I had a no-five this morning. Figured that fits in this thread.
Also had a couple of closer than I like interactions with wobbly, overly-enthusiastic riders.
But, hey, that’s also part of Bike to Work Day.OneEighth

ParticipantDepends on what you are after. If you are mostly worried about rust, try using WD40 to wipe the bike down. That’s what I do—inhibits rust/corrosion while leaving a nice shine. Don’t think you need the clear coat unless you are worried about aesthetics.

ParticipantYeah, but you’d be amazed at how much better I can climb without the additional weight and drag!

ParticipantThe rest of us got nothin’ on the Vietnamese when it comes to this. Or carrying any manner of stuff on two wheels. Absolutely amazing.

ParticipantMade it all the way from 15th and G to the 14th St Bridge yesterday evening. Only had to weasel the light at F to do so. If I can reliably repeat the pattern, then count me a fan of the new timing.

ParticipantI haven’t yet figured out my southbound 15th Street commute to the 14th Street Bridge with the new timing, but the northbound AM ride up 17th to the Whitehouse is now great.
