I’m planning on taking the MARC to Baltimore on an upcoming Friday when I have the day off. I’m then going to bike back to Greenbelt park to camp for the night before the final short leg the following morning.
I know the Bike Washington website has a route between Baltimore and DC, but I’m wondering if anyone here has done this trip recently or has any other route suggestions.
Hope this worked out for you. As others mentioned, yes, MARC’s weekend Penn Line trains all have the bike car, albeit only from spring to fall. And even if the dedicated car is missing, the other coaches all accommodate bikes (2 per coach). No extra charge for the bike!

More folks should use MARC to visit Baltimore with bikes; Penn Station is a good starting point for trips. The Maryland Ave protected bike lane is one block away, and takes you to the Inner Harbor. Jones Falls trail is also a block away. Further out, the Fort McHenry Seawall Trail gives you a beautiful view of the Patapsco.

Or any other bike lights that involves programming for custom displays? Looking for a fun demo for the next Bike Hack Night (Transportation Techies meetup).

Here’s a schweet poster for the event. Please RSVP if you can make it: meetup.com/Transportation-Techies/events/226911922/mvs202ParticipantI went two years ago and it was a great event, and a great way to bike through Philly. Here’s my mostly-SFW-ish blog post on it 2013 Philly Naked Bike Ride
mvs202ParticipantThese are all awesome. BTW, we’ve got Dave Pomeroy presenting his Ride Art at Thursday’s Bike Hack Night, including the 70-mile Godzilla drawing.
mvs202ParticipantThanks. I made a sample movie of GarminConnectSample.gpx: https://db.tt/iMBa5295
Now I have to figure out: what is the best way to get a group of 100 or more people to send in their GPS data? Maybe ask everyone to get MapMyRide for their smartphones, then export the GPX file, then email it in.
mvs202ParticipantIs anyone willing to send me a sample file of one of their rides? I’ve tested one GPX file already, but it won’t work because it didn’t have a time stamp, and the idea is to overlay multiple trips, so I need to know the times.
mvs202ParticipantI’ve been doing a few other updates with the 2013 CaBi data – the Trip Visualizer and an interactive bar chart.
January 11, 2013 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Capital Bikeshare Trip History Data — Results Roundup #959742mvs202ParticipantThe London Barclays Cycle Hire has a sample file with 25 trips. To get access to their bikesharing system you have to submit an application, including things like expected audience, and the IP addresses of where you’ll be using it!
No luck with Paris, Montreal, or Denver. Boston has a single set available, which I used to make a little visualizer tool with: Bikeshare Stats on a Map
Anyone know of other cities where the bikeshare trip history data is easily available?
mvs202ParticipantThe best part of the Tweed Ride is the smiles it brings to passers-by who weren’t expecting to see hundreds of vintage cyclists roll by. It’s like tweed diplomacy. A few photos here: Taking to Tweed, Then the Streets.
mvs202ParticipantOn the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the critical mass, I collected some pix from the DC ride: Looking Back at the Critical Mass
In general, it’s a good group of riders, though I wish people would stop “corking” intersections.
October 3, 2012 at 12:25 am in reply to: Crystal Diamond Derby Part Deux. Coming in September #952695mvs202ParticipantAnother awesome event. I understand they wanted to shift from the spring to the fall, but why not keep it twice a year?
Got a few pix up on my blog: Diamond Derby Returns to Crystal City
Glad they put gels over the garage’s fluorescent lights, but next year would like to see a section lit up better to make it easier to take photos. Oh, and turn down the speaker volume!
mvs202ParticipantAdded Bonzai. But someone commented in the blog post that I’m missing ” Annandale Bike Shop”, but it is not showing up on Google. I can’t add it without an address. Anyone know if this is an actual place?
mvs202ParticipantThanks everyone for your suggestions – I’ve added them to the Bike Shops and Beyond map. I now have 91 bike shops on the map (phew!). Best way to leave a note is via the accompanying blog post, Updating the Bike Shops Map.
Re suggestion to show brands, parking, & hours: sounds like too much work, and it would grow outdated too easily. I do include links (click on the map icon), so that will have to suffice.
