“Easter Rubber Duckie”

44.5 miles Full RideI was looking at Strava posts and I saw George Lewis’ ride entitled, “04/16/2014 Washington, DC” http://www.strava.com/activities/131045879 It reminded me of a duck’s body, but the head was just a square shape. I send George a message saying that all he needed was a little fine-tuning and a new head and the result would be a STRAVA art ride of a rubber ducky!. I invited him to redo this ride together, Easter Sunday. Well, George couldn’t make it, and Easter was the perfect day for this subject, so I rode it alone. This ride stretched from the heart of Georgetown (Duckie’s backside) to Adams Morgan (Duckie’s beak) Along the way I saw plenty of embassies, hotels, and some fine looking homes! The tip of Duckie’s head actually touches Kalorama Circle! I saw Bike Arlington’s, “Dickie” on my way to Georgetown and invited him to join me. It seemed only appropriate: (Dickie <=> Duckie) but he was expected at home, so in the end it was just me, the Duckie, and a beautiful spring afternoon!

It appears that Strava only shows an approximation of your route to other people (presumably as a privacy/security measure).
Here is how it looks for me when I go to your godzilla ride:
Mystery solved!
Anyone else see this undesired “smoothing” of my drawing rides on STRAVA, say compared to the jpg files I post on the forum?? I am shocked! I always see my drawing with full street by street detail! When I look at others’ rides on STRAVA I always see street by street detail of their rides.
Honestly I’d like to know if anyone else has noticed what Chris_S sees! If so, I’m going to contact STRAVA and find out what’s going on. Thank you for your help. Any documentation, such as the screen shot that chris posted would be very helpful. Thanks everyone.
Dave

Yup. My guess is that you either have to be logged in, or maybe even a follower of yours. Like Chris S said, probably for privacy concerns.
Some people were asking the same thing on our Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/BikeArlington/posts/619976958070824?stream_ref=10

32.6 miles Full RideFor those too young to remember, Sweet Polly Purebred is the girlfriend of ”Underdog” a popular American cartoon character from the 60’s and 70’s—This drawing was planned for a nearby cemetery because the roads were so suggestive of this image. Some off-road excursions were required to make the details of Polly’s face and I had to use a little finesse, walking the bike with light steps between the graves! The cemetery spectacle was even more amusing, because I made this ride/drawing with 4 other cyclists, a family, (dkel, rockford10, and their two boys, 10 and 12). Everyone was eager to try GPS art riding, and I invited them to join me because these quiet roads were perfect for younger riders! At only 3.4 miles, this is one of the shortest drawings so far, and we ate lunch at an outdoor café afterwards. It was a perfect spring day, and dkel and I enjoyed an additional 30-mile ride looping around Arlington.

May 4, 2014 at 10:47 am #1000258Rockford10ParticipantThanks Fast Friendly Guy for a great time last weekend! I’m just getting to look at the pictures I took of the drawing process. A fun day was had by all (even if the littlest boy and I didn’t always portage through the graveyard!).

16.8 miles Full RideThis is my first art-ride since my May 10 accident, but I’m back with lot’s of new ideas! Liz’s ride with Anne on May 26, 2014,(http://www.strava.com/activities/145816229) was the inspiration for this GPS art-ride drawing. Liz and I replicated her ride with some added drawing details and embellishments, so it was a new ride for both of us. Liz and I enjoyed a beautiful early summer Saturday morning that took us through quiet residential neighborhoods, gravel roads, and shady streets for some parts (hind legs); and busy thoroughfares with sprawling suburban shopping malls for other parts (the bushy tail). The adventure factor cranked up as we cut across lawns and a new-home construction area (base of the tail) culminating with bushwhacking through woods, skirting fences, a wet-footed stream crossing and stepping lightly over and through poison ivy (squirrel’s back)! I can’t remember a ride I enjoyed more! Liz is so much fun to ride with–a really great adventure ride partner!
