I have an question re: the #GoldenSpike listing under the Pointless option in freezingsaddles.org.  It shows # rides and # miles, but IT DOESN’T SHOW points, eg, the bonus points that I should get via Rule #6:

    6. BONUS POINTS: board the train or light rail vehicle with your bike from one station and alight at another station. In that case you will claim three points. Must post a picture of your bike with the start station sign, end station sign, and your bike aboard the train to claim the three points.

I think I have been posting my rides correctly and including the three required photos.  How/where can I see my points, and the points accrued by other people competing for this prize? I’m keeping a spreadsheet to track my stations and points, but that’s hardly official.

Please add me to the list. Although, like many of the other participants, I’ve been doing wandrer for a while, so it’ll be very hard for me to get new miles, at least in the DMV.

For BONUS POINTS, does the direction of the trip count? If I got on in Silver Spring and got off in Union Station, is that different than getting on in Union Station and getting off in Silver Sprint? It’s a unique permutation, if not a combination.

    7. BONUS POINT trips must be unique, but you could, for instance, board the Red Line at Silver Spring and ride to Union Station (three points) and the next day ride from Silver Spring to Rhode Island Ave and claim another three points.

I’m thinking of either taking the metro to the end and biking back home or doing it the other way around. If anyone’s interested, I might organize group rides for the Golden Spike prize.

If you’re talking about the end of the silver line in Ashburn, always take your bike on the train to Ashburn and ride back. You will probably have a tailwind. Except the direct ride back is boring (all W&OD). Rides back from the end of the red line in Wheaton is much more interesting – Sligo Creek Trail to other trails then through town.

I once had a consulting job in Curtis Bay. I would ride my bike to Union Station, get on a MARC train to BWI (folding bike), and ride to the USCG supply yard that was there. Actually I think I got off the train in Linthicum which was a little closer and had less traffic. But getting through Brooklyn was still a challenge.

I rode my bike (with a metro assist) to do a winter hike with friends (From Babes on Bikes) at Lake Bernard Frank. The hike was 4.7 miles. The bike ride, from home to metro and then from the Rockville metro station to the trail head, was about the same. The ride was on neighborhood streets with a stretch on the Carl Henn Millennium Trail that parallels route 28. The hike was partly paved and partly dirt and went around the lake and through the park. I got out there today, too. It was my first time on the Lake Accotink trails, but I managed to avoid most of the gravel. The tribute was very moving. I talked to several locals, many of whom knew that someone had been killed there, but were wondering why the news hadn’t made it to the local news.

I am planning to do a tribute ride tomorrow (Saturday 9/5) afternoon. Do I have the spot correct? — Looks like the curve on the trail just south of King’s Glen Elementary School and Clydesdale Rd.

I’m not car free but car light. My 1981 Toyota Tercel died in 2014 with about 65,000 miles on it. I briefly considered going car free but decided against it. My 2015 Honda Fit has about 16,000 miles on it. I just brought it in for a 15,000 mile check-up. Nothing was unexpected except that some squirrels had started building a nest in the air filter. Recommendation: Drive it more, or at least more often.

If you still need a female cyclist, let me know. Let me know how I should be dressed (bicyclist or civilian clothes) and what sort of bike I should be riding — I can dress as a civilian and ride my mixte, dress in biking kit and ride my road bike, or somewhere in between.

QUOTE=Rootchopper;202061]There is a personal injury lawsuit going on involving the security barrier at the end of South Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria. This barrier is supposed to protect the underside of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

The attorney for the plaintiff seeks one male and one female as follows:

I will pay a male and female, in biking clothing, with helmets, on geared bicycles $100 dollars each for about one half hour ”work” to show up at for filming between “2:45 to 3:30 pm and allow us to videotape them riding side by side along this route a couple times at a leisurely pace of 8-10 mph.

This will happen next Tuesday, August 25 at the southern most end of South Royal Street next to St. Mary’s School.

If you are interested, please send me a private message with your name and cell phone number. I will forward them to the attorney and he’ll coordinate with you directly.

Vaden is currently also closed for construction (5/7/20). Coming from the west I got across by walking my bike through the metro concourse.
