lordofthemarkParticipantTo no one’s suprise, I wish to be a Friend of BAFS in 2025, as I was in 2024.
My contributions will be to do the Civil War Forts pointless prize, to
argue with Stevepatiently explain to Steve the benefit of the Friends leaderboard, and to discuss BAFS trivia, and all other triviaJanuary 8, 2025 at 5:18 pm #1135712ltierstein
ParticipantI signed up to ride Freezing Saddles, but I would like to switch to being a Friend, to give someone else a chance to compete and join a team. I didn’t see a way that I could switch. Can an admin do that for me?

cvcalhounParticipant@ltierstein (and anyone else who has questions/concerns/complaints): You can use the contact form at this link. However, you may wish to specify whether you definitely want to be a Friend, or only want to be one if necessary to allow someone else to participate. Although we have had more registrations than spots, there are always some people who
- ask to drop out,
- don’t join their team’s Strava club after being assigned to a team, or
- get injured during the competition.
Last year, we had 269 registrations, everyone got onto a team, and we even ended up being unable to replace at least one person who got injured. So I would not automatically assume that you need to drop out in order to give someone else a place.

cvcalhounParticipant@boomer2u, we have your registration. You’ll be a Friend if you don’t get assigned to a team. However, see my response to @ltierstein, above. Even late registrants have a good chance of being assigned to teams.

ParticipantHey! I broke my wrist in November so I’m temporarily unable to ride but would like to be a FOFS this year (2026). I clicked into this link from the registration page and for the life of me all I see are the replies and I don’t see the actual original sticky post with instructions ? maybe it’s because I’m doing this from my phone, or maybe the new forum archives older posts after a certain time?

cvcalhounParticipant@rumipumi, sorry to hear about your injury! And I’m working with Henry to get the forum fixed. In the meantime, here are the steps to become a friend:
- Join this forum and make at least one post. (You already did that.)
- Join the Freezing Saddles 2026 club at https://www.strava.com/clubs/freezingsaddles2026
- Authorize Freezing Saddles to read your miles at https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize
- Join the mailing list at https://freezingsaddles.info/subscribe/

ParticipantBeing a Friend of BAFS for 2026 sounds good. After years of playing (and moving away from DC), no need to take a spot from someone local. Also, I look forward to riding less & taking some days off without guilt :). Kudos to all the daily riders of BAFS; quite impressive.
