Thanks to Komorebi for a great ride and to Reji for sweeping. It was pretty cold, but fun as well as educational.

Was in town a few weeks ago, and I noticed that the PBL goes all the way to Maine Avenue, very briefly on Maine, and then ends as the riders go to/from Ohio Dr SW.

There are plans to fill that last gap. I don’t know the timetable.

I went into labor with my son at Christopher’s Restaurant in Cambridge MA. We were waiting for a table, and suddenly I had to stand up and grip chairs every few minutes. My husband convinced me to get takeout. (Then it took us a half hr to walk home, usually a7 min walk. [emoji38]) I’d been in “labor” all day, but it had been low key til the restaurant – I’d gone to work. I got my health care at work, so where better?

So we floated the idea of naming our son Christopher, since he was almost born there – but a good friend (who ended up at Matthew’s birth! [emoji38][emoji1744]) told us we couldn’t name a Jewish boy Christopher.

So since we do not believe that the messiah has come, we aren’t supposed to give a name suggesting we are honoring someone as the messiah – Christ is of course Greek for Messiah/moshiach/anointed one. So you don’t give a name with that element (even if folks with the name Christopher are actually named after St Christopher, not after Jesus)

Now, we had a somewhat similar story to yours. We were at a vegetarian/health food store/restaurant run by Sikhs in Baltimore, called the Golden Temple.

I thinks Sarah (POTM) is glad we didnt give her that name – though Aurelia might have worked. Or to be more traditionally Jewish, Goldie. (I have a niece names Zloty – not named after the old Polish currency, but I guess the Polish translation of Goldie, which was some great grandmother’s name in the old country)

Edit. QOTM points out we could have named her Shirley Temple. Hmmm.

Well. THERE’S an offer. I already have a doc for that though.

I do have a dentist in that building, and have ridden to and from appointments. Somehow I think there should be a joke here, but I can’t think of one, and if I did, I probably wouldn’t post it. Hmmm.

    Happy riding!

My Junior High French teacher called us by French names similar to our English names. No French equivalent of “Kenneth” so she called me “Christophe” My rabbi/hebrew school teacher told me this was completely improper for a Jewish boy. I don’t think I ever told my teacher, I didn’t want the confrontation. ;)

Well, I’ve just added a ride to my (already long) bucket list.

Four Mile Run Trail from Shirlington to Airport was fine, some wet spots that may freeze up tonight? MVT fine, except for an ice patch (easily avoided) on the east side of the airport bridge just south of Gravelly Point. 14th Street bridge side path was similar, several ice patches on the shadowed downstream side.

Sidewalk by the Jefferson, by the fish market fine, as was the WharfleTrack. Eye Street bike lane much better than similar bike lanes in Alexandria were yesterday. There was some snow left in the NJ ave bike lane right across from USDOT.

Highlight of the ride in was seeing another bike commuter getting ready to show her pass to the guard at the garage entrance just as I was going it. For those 30 seconds, it was car commuters to USDOT 2, bike commuters, 2.

Got a picture today, also bought some Sidamo Ethiopian coffee. (Btw, my parents who were not coffee nerds, as few Americans were back then, made a point of starting each day’s visit to Expo ’67 in Montreal with a stop at the Ethiopian pavilion for the coffee)

Ken’s Asian Bistro, on Huntington Avenue in Fairfax. No explanation necessary, I think. I would have taken a better picture, but I needed to remove my gloves to take the picture, and I did not want my fingers to fall off.

(ok, compressing the file worked, but since when have I had to do that?)
