January 14, 2022 at 8:48 pm #1116588HenryKeymasterYou would think that since they named it after me, I could convince Ft. Myer to open the gate, but, alas, no.

No, my handle is NOT named after Mark Center.
Mark is my middle name. When I was a wee young lad, my parent’s favorite TV offerings were such Masterpiece Theater series as Elizabeth R, and The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth. Where every character was Lord of this, or Duchess of that.
I lived on Webster Avenue in Brooklyn. My dad with his mischievous sense of humor, decided to call me the Lord of the Mark of Webster.
Of course about this time I was getting into The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Which features Theoden, Lord of the Mark of Rohan. I don’t recall if that influenced the choice of nick name, but I think it may have.
About 20 years ago I was a somewhat prolific poster (are you surprised?) to a forum devoted to the PC game called “Civilization” Lord of the Mark seemed like a good handle (and made a bit more sense there). I used it on a couple of other gaming sites, so people would recognize me from one site to the other.
When I joined this forum I was not feeling very original and just recycled the old handle.
There you have it.

I wish we had a pawn shop on either King or Queen Street. Not that the situation is all black and white.

January 15, 2022 at 7:49 pm #1116699Alcova cyclistParticipantDo I get bonus points for having bike infrastructure named after me? (or perfectly lining up my selfie so there’s an arrow that says “Anderson” pointing to my head (which was actually just blind luck)?)
January 16, 2022 at 1:22 am #1116744Steve OParticipantI tagged along on the Foothill Cycling Club’s Saturday ride today and took a tiny detour to the Big O Barbershop in Burbank, CA
I even got a photo with Big O himself! Steve O and Big O together.

Elizabeth is my full name. I’ve always gone by Beth, though I am named after my maternal grandmother who went by Betty.

(oops upload problem will add back later)

(ok, compressing the file worked, but since when have I had to do that?)
