Also cold brew and “iced latte” for those of us who were fashvitzed.

Show up all five days and get a chance to win an e-bike? Sheesh – a raffle entry is quite a step down from a jersey :(

I assume no jerseys because no Crystal Ride?

Is it heresy to say the best BTWW swag was the National Landing jacket?

Anyway, the best part of BTWW is still seeing friends – and free coffee and food, of course. I assume the latter will still be part of it?

Hopefully they don’t allow the new painting to fade. It also would be nice if they fixed all of the potholes near the northwest end of Phase 1.

You probably don’t have this problem since you are biking to work, but there now is a bike/Segway touring company which completely blocks the path when a tour is being assembled. Perhaps the worst part is people testing their bikes/Segways, especially the latter, move randomly and often not in control before their tour starts.

Oh, I do sometimes run into the bike tour people when I am commuting home in the evenings. They are mostly in control, but I do find myself calling “hold your line please” when they go past. Just one more Wharfle Track treat. At least maybe pedestrians will get more likely to expect bikes as a result?

And yeah, the potholes remain an issue.

Phase 2 of the Wharf is well on its way. While the buildings have not opened yet, the western half of the second phase of the sidewalk level cycle track s now open, looks great. More like bike lanes than phase 1, and the sidewalk is a bit wider, so may function more like actual bike lanes. You still get dumped onto Maine for now, the last bit of the cycle track is not done yet.

Further good news (which I have wanted for some time) is that the cycle track in front of Wharf Phase 1 has been repainted – yes, the bike symbols and arrows are back, and there is even green paint as you approach the “street” crossings.

It’s still far from the best facility in the area, but I am hopeful it will function better in the near future than it has in the recent past.

Also to note, further construction on the oval at Potomac and South Cap. Still some ways before it’s comfortable going from the bike lanes on Potomac SW to those on Potomac SE.

I’m interested in the ride and the game (just one ticket) if there are any left.

The documents likely won’t be posted until the meeting occurs. I saw a post on Twitter advertising the meeting which showed one of the lanes on the one way section becoming a bike/ped only lane and the other lane remains by a car lane with sparrows. The loop would also be closed to tour busses (which have been the cause of my worst experiences at HP)

My understanding is that this project is in response to two pedestrians being killed at HP.

At least one member of our community should find that lane very interesting.

Are there any local options for donating bike parts?

Mt Rainier co-op didn’t have much info. Velocity didn’t seem to make mention of parts no the site, so maybe they’re not taking anything.

Not on Facebook which is an impediment in the free cycling arena.

    I thought PhoenixBikes acccepted them?

My question is, why doesn’t Alexandria put aside “rainy day” money to expedite infrastructure repairs. And it’s not just small infrastructure – just yesterday ArlCo+Alx announced new capacity reductions on the W Glebe bridge over 4MR that was identified as unsafe back in 2018. Seems like each time we act surprised and have to wait for the next budget cycle to do anything more than erect barricades.

Massive infrastructure needs backlog. Schools, city hall repairs, all kinds of things. You mention “rainy day fund” Big stormwater issues ( not only the CSOs) and some folks think every spare penny should go to accelerating fixes (I don’t agree but this isn’t the place for that discussion)

Meanwhile we at BPAC are advocating for better resourcing of the complete streets/vision zero efforts.

Theres a lot to do. More hands helping with advocacy are always welcome.

    Update:

The traffic signal at Eye and NJ SE, where this incident happened is in place. The PBL’s on NJ now run all the way south to US DOT HQ. NJ and Eye is now a protected intersection, one of the first in the District (its a bit odd, because of the angle caused by the state avenue, and the inconsistent presence/absense of parking on the different lets of the intersection – you’d have to ask Darren/Bikepedantic about that)

Things DO get better. Slowly. Painfully. Inconsistently. But they do.

I’ve heard this (that vehicles screw up the bike/ped facilities) a number of time from local authorities and I don’t understand why it’s something they can’t actually address rather than saying “oh well, your facility will be broken indefinitely because we don’t have the money to repair the preventable damage”. Like, if the police or telco or whoever tear up the trail, why don’t the costs come out of their budget?

You don’t follow the police budget discourse in Alexandria, do you?

I don’t use 15th Street. I use Independence from Lincoln Memorial to where Maine splits off towards Waterfront. Then I take Maine and intersect with 15th as I continue through to the Waterfront. At the same time that they improved 15th Street with a two way cycle track, they took away the right lane on Maine (where I used to take the lane) and filled it with bollards and barriers so no vehicle could use it. This forces me over a lane to take what used to be the center lane. But the two remaining lanes are impassable due to potholes. I’m annoyed they couldn’t improve 15th without taking away Maine. Or at least instead of taking the right lane away from everybody, leave out the barriers to I can bike that lane safely. It feels like a one-mile detour at least to find the next best route.

    It’s poor design and planning.

I will have to go back and see what it looks like now. If its a paving issue, then that will be fixed with repaving. I am not sure leaving a gap in the protection of the cycle track is a better option to deal with a temporary pavement condition.

Fellow bikers in Alexandria! Boomer and I are hosting a convoy riding out to Falls Church. The wheels will roll from the South Four Mile Run Park entrance (after the baseball fields) on Mt Vernon Ave at 4:15 PM. Fellow bikers from Arlington can join us at the W&OD Trailhead at 4:30 PM or the Bluemont Caboose at 4:45 PM. Rendezvous points can be calibrated accordingly depending upon who/where wants to join.

    Best,
    Serdar

P.S. I shamelessly stole Boomer’s text from his email to me.

And from the forgotten northern corner of Alexandria ;)

If NPS wants to pedestrianize the whole experience, they should just do that. And maybe run shuttle van services for people with mobility problems.

But this farrago of weird half-measures and seemingly arbitrary closures?? Like three lanes northbound only on Ohio Drive beyond the Tidal Basin inlet. Or the cop who barked at me to get on the sidewalk that was absolutely rammed with people instead of simply riding on the wide-open street. The 15th St PBL was similarly impaired yesterday down near Maine Ave. Cyclists were ordered to get on the packed sidewalk. They should be encouraging people to cycle there, and not be throwing up literal roadblocks.

The only time I saw that (PBL closed) was when the POTUS motorcade came through. (the other areas were weird, but intrepid riders were finding their way to impromptu useable pavement)
