#FSWormhole – Green Range

One of many underpasses/tunnels in Reston designed to link communities via paved paths. This one goes under very busy Glade Dr. It’s a safe way for kids from the low income apartments on the right to get to the neighborhood pool. Whichever way you turn on the far side, you end up on Green Range Dr., hence the name.

Due to the pool on one side and dinner on the other, my guess is that the gravitational pull of this wormhole is at its strongest in summer months.

    1/27/21 Tunnel

In Reston we have numerous underpasses or tunnels, part of the original founder’s vision to connect neighborhoods via pathways rather than roads. Some are decorated (public art) and others are lesser used these days, especially with the kids out of school. This one is close to my house and needs some art love. In the meantime, it’s a good set for a scary home made movie if kids do that anymore!

    It’s also a good #FSWormhole

Did my terrible, no good, bad weather mega-sleaze ride to discover an incorrect word was discovered, so back on the bike. Hopefully two greens are better than one.

That was totally your ride partner’s fault. I can explain what happened later. In the meantime … please forgive me.

Here’s a photo of Greenway Boulevard in Falls Church. At this intersection there’s a store with a sign advertising “Parrots, Parrots, Parrots, just Parrot’s”. In the show Modern Family, one of the characters owned a custom closet business. His biggest competitor was called “Closets, Closets, Closets, Closets”. Whenever they mentioned “Closets, Closets, Closets, Closets” on the show, it would make me think of “Parrots, Parrots, Parrots, just Parrot’s”. The “Parrots, Parrots, Parrots, just Parrot’s” sign also bugs me because of the stray apostrophe in the final “Parrot’s”.

If the rules allowed, I would post a picture of the “Parrots, Parrots, Parrots, just Parrot’s” sign. You can see it in the photo below, but from a very oblique angle so you can’t read it.

I love that about the parrots. Perhaps the original owner of the store’s last name was Parrot and it was an inside joke? Or maybe the sign company messed up and offered them 50% off to just go with it? I can continue with silly scenarios but I’ll stop. :-)

Miserable weather day and the lack of sun does not show this work at it’s best. It’s called “Emerge” and was a collaboration between an artist in residence and students at the nearby elementary school. It’s on the South Reston public art ride.

    #FSWormhole Emerge

This is an underpass in Reston that was adorned in an art collaboration with an artist in residence and students of 4-6th grades at a nearby elementary school. It’s called “Emerge” and allows students to safely cross under the very busy Glade Dr. It can also be used to get to the nearby shopping center and community center. Sadly, very few students actually use this because parents in our area seem to think their little darlings must be driven to school (when it’s in person). If I were the empress, the criteria for “Kiss N Ride” use would be very strictly enforced!

    1/25/2021 Bubbles

When I learned that the daily photo was bubbles, I immediately thought about Bark ‘N Bubbles. This is where we take our dog to get his nails cut and for us to give him a bath. It is a lot easier on us and him to use this wonderful small business. Besides the name, note the bubbles on the window blinds.

I saw those blinds in your Strava photo — such a cute way to screen the windows and reflect the name of the place – not to mention telling people how to find it. “Yeah, when you see bubbles, stop!” :-)

They are owned by the same (bankrupt) parent company as Hair Cuttery. At first, I didn’t think I’d come up with anything, but in the middle of the night, I remembered this salon, which used to be a Hair Cuttery (less than 1/2 mile away). I’m hoping for a lax judge and get credit for something. My brain is already fried, I don’t need to think any more than I have to!

I didn’t realize they’re bankrupt … they sure had a lot of locations so the covid restrictions must have hit them really hard. Bummer for the employees! That’s a hard enough job as it is!

Silly question – for those who are new to the event this year and probably missed the original, “yes, I’ll buy one of those” — when they DO arrive, will there be any extra? I’d definitely like to purchase one!

Taking the easy way out on this. A salon in Olney.

Bubbles Salon has many locations, including one here in Reston. It was my first thought — but I couldn’t find any actual bubbles on their storefront or logo and I wasn’t sure if the word would suffice! I guess it’s up in the air (get it? bubbles up in the air?) lol
