ParticipantFound this in Leesburg today. Goes through a park to cut off some miles on a busy road. The park is called Foxridge, so this is the Foxridge Foxhole Wormhole…

Participant3/14/21 – Since I was out in Leesburg scouting for a public art ride, I looked for street names that might line up with scientists.
Here is Raymond “Ray” Davis Jr. (Davis Dr may or may not be named for him).
DC native born and U of MD grad, Dr. Davis (Yale PhD in physical chemistry) was an American chemist and physicist. He is best known as the leader of the Homestake experiment in the 1960s-1980s, which was the first experiment to detect neutrinos emitted from the Sun; for this he shared the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physics.

ParticipantWhat a fun riding day. Went down to the Wharf to see the “I’m Speaking” crocheted mural. It’s beautiful and ephemeral, so if you want to see it, you’d better get there soon (i.e., it’s made of yarn…). Here’s a photo of it, but that’s not my submission for today.
We also went up to see the Amanda Gorman mural in the Dupont Circle area so LeftyLaura could harvest those extra points. As we left it, I saw this and decided it was a perfect anti-climactic public art piece for submission.
It’s not “The Big Chair” of Anacostia, but a more demure chair, although this one proclaims “Humanity’s Throne” across its front.

ParticipantThis is my second time in 3 days to go back to this mural, this time so my riding buddy, Lefty Laura, could see it and harvest those extra points offered by Boomer2U on PublicArtFinder. But to my delight, as I looked at it again, I realized that the ladders for the fire escape are LADDERS! So they work for today’s scavenger hunt word.

One of the signs of spring I always look forward to is the crocuses in Rock Creek Park. They add a vibrant pop of color when everything is still drab and gray.

But aren’t those daffodils? Still beautiful, I agree!

Very barky dog comes out to announce that you do not have permission to pass here. Just ignore him.

3/11/2021 face using pareidolia
this face just jumped out at me as I was cutting through the back of a shopping center. It’s on the back of a street sweeper and the sweeper’s name is Broom Bear. The eyes are closed with heavy eyelashes and has a tiny nose and a straight smile.

And don’t we wish people who are feeling angsty wore signs that said, “Keep Back 300 Feet!” This is a good one, Cathy!

Don’t recall seeing this posted from Kbikeva ’s excellent #publicartfinder rides in Reston last week, though it would take a month of rides to see the trove of wonderful art pieces in Reston. And I hope that I haven’t already posted it on this thread, but ….
A cast bronze sculpture inspired by the power of Mother Nature installed at Reston Station Plaza, “The Force of Nature,” is by artist Lorenzo Quinn and is located on the north side of Wiehle-Reston East Station
Further info on the piece can be found here:
https://www.restonnow.com/2018/04/16/new-public-art-installed-at-reston-station-plaza/Bonus +3 points this week for those who DON’T live in Reston if you post a photograph it with your bike at a different angle than I did below!
P.S. If you live in Reston, go find the new Amanda Gorman mural in DC and post a pic here with your bike in it for this extra point offer! (But the DCists will need to go to Reston for this week’s bonus points … too easy if it’s in your own hood!)

With the most excellent weather and a clear calendar, I took the challenge today and got my Amanda mural photo. Claiming those Restonian/DC points, Boomer!

Yes! Off of the new trail that runs along VA Ave, SE. There were a few others too!
Another destination ride goes into my calendar … and if we keep having weather like this I may be able to do them all!

Another fun one – or maybe they’re just way more fun when it’s perfect riding weather and you don’t have to rush home for zoom meetings!
I biked from Reston down to Georgetown today to snag some points from Boomer in Public Art Finder. Along the way I saw so many faces! But crossing the Key bridge I kept seeing this ferocious wild cat face with pointy ears and fangs…and who knew about Capital Traction Company? I sure didn’t. Thanks, Drevil!

On the mvt just past Alexandria Avenue, out on the way to fort hunt. There’s also one a bit further south in a parking lot in between fort hunt & mt Vernon just off the trail.

Huh – all the times I’ve ridden the MVT and I’ve never noticed! But that’s true about a lot of these challenges to look at the world a different way! Thanks!

Fascinating — where on the MVT? (I confess I’m spending way too much time thinking about why the remaining pay phones are in the locations they are …)
