Perhaps others have noticed this connection before, but I never have.
When traveling southbound on the Mount Vernon Trail, one must go around the old power plant. North of the plant, the trail splits: go right and it takes you to Slater’s Lane; go left and it takes you down along the river. If you take the river route, you come to Tide Lock Park. The trail curves right and then left, and in a long block you are at First Street, where the two branches reconnect.
If you go right up to Slater’s Lane, then you have to salmon on the sidewalk for a block to connect to the trail, which travels diagonally alongside the tracks until it eventually also reaches First St.

There is a wormhole connection, though, back at the northwest corner of the park, as shown here:
Since it connects Tide Lock Park with Fairfax Drive, I’ll call it the Fair Tides wormhole

It’s partially unpaved, goes through an imposing open gate and requires crossing two sets of train tracks which aren’t quite flush with the ground. But if you opt for the river route, you can take this to get to some of the northernmost parts of Old Town without having to backtrack and without having to salmon on E. Abingdon.

River route. The park is to the left and the wormhole is directly ahead

Belated posting of a wormhole introduced to me back in January by reji which I now present to you as…

“CottaWingoNottoMetro Wormhole”
5efa9a4934b77d6f6b07207f4bc43c20.jpg

This a 2-way traversable wormhole that connects the universes of Vienna and Fairfax that are separated by I-66, the hyper speed traffic on the Nutley Street bridge, and other non-scalable barriers, via Nottoway Park and the Fairfax Connector Trail. It also connects to a spur road that traverses several parking garages and townhouse developments to the Vienna-GMU Metro station.

Depending upon which direction you approach this wormhole, it could also be named “MetroNottoWingoCotta” (NE to SW) after the names of the streets that lead to/fro this spatial anomaly.0f681b80353eb04cab82b00afc1beb75.jpg

This only works when the station is open, but apparently you can use the Franconia-Springfield metro station and the adjacent VRE station as a wormhole between “downtown” Springfield and points southeast. Google has tried to take me this way when Metro isn’t operating and all you meet are closed gates. You have to go up and down three flights, I took the stairs but if your bike can fit in the elevator that would work too.26beac955d5eac76b6dbad2ad6f2cc2c.jpg

Introducing the third in the series of gravity defying wormholes that allow one to traverse the car crazy universe of Tyson’s Corner:
ab6829a1fb447bc94a1b256b14ce7fa8.jpg

This wormhole is located at the TyCo Greensboro Metro station and provides safe passage over Leesburg Pike (Rt 7) which is otherwise a near-death experience even at crosswalks w/ traffic lights

I used the elevators as portals to the aerial bridge on both the north and south sides on Rt 7. 0c642f62b81224bde15468df28151d70.jpg

On the north side is the largest mural in TyCo, “Tyson’s Lilies” which was inspired by the French Impressionist Oscar-Claude Monet:

I was crossing my fingers while planning this ride today, hoping we’d stay off Rt. 7 and not knowing what might be running along the fence there. It was a lovely surprise to find this wormhole! It takes one from the neighborhood to the shopping center via a paved (tree root bumps) path.

I don’t know all of what has been reported in Alexandria West End as a wormhole. But just in case this one hasn’t, here it is. I called it Taney as it’s connects Taney Avenue on both sides of Taney park. The paved cut through is a new sidewalk (still very bright white). Anything beats riding next to Duke St (much less ON Duke St)!

FairfaxBerry Wormhole

Connects two neighborhoods, saves some mileage

Very barky dog comes out to announce that you do not have permission to pass here. Just ignore him.

Rockville’s favorite #FSwormhole is a tunnel under Maryland Avenue. Great connection to cross this busy road that does not have enough crosswalks.

Found this in Leesburg today. Goes through a park to cut off some miles on a busy road. The park is called Foxridge, so this is the Foxridge Foxhole Wormhole…

This is called Wormhole MOPW — It stands for “My Own Personal Wormhole”. It is a mulched paved path from my neighbor’s driveway down to the Reston paths. (The neighbor allows anyone who wants to use of this gem) Through the wormhole, I enter a world of green, with a lovely stream, zillions of birds and frogs and other critters. It’s the gateway to the 55+ miles of paved pathways throughout Reston. I can follow it (circuitously for sure) to the Wiehle-Reston Metro station or to one of our several lakes. These paths have been a sanity check for the last year for many people who live in and around Reston. There’s the occasional jerk, but by and large people are generous with space and encouraging words.

This paved wormhole connects Melville Lane via Marshall Hall Lane to Red Admiral Place. From Red Admiral Place you can take Red Admiral Way to Federal Systems Park to avoid part of the Fair Lakes Parkway. I’ll call this the Marshall Hall wormhole.

This wormhole provides a shortcut between the CCCT (Accotink Stream Valley trail) and Inova Fairfax Hospital / Woodburn Medical Park by going through Pine Ridge Park via a paved trail and gravel parking lot.

In the middle of this Park is the historic Liberty Cemetery which used to be a small African-American community in Annandale called the The Pines until the 1960s when Fairfax County took the residents’ land by eminent domain to build a new high school. The school was never built, and the land eventually became the site of Pine Ridge Park. All that’s left of the Pines community is the small Liberty Lodge Cemetery at the edge of park.

So, I gotta ask…there are a few of us on the wormhole leaderboard, same rules as last year, name it and provide photo (or other digitally friendly) proof within the thread? What about wormholes id’d last year?

AFAIK no one is hosting a wormhole PP this year. Many orphaned hashtags are still in the system. Check the Pointless Prize thread for this year’s reindeer games

That’s what I thought based on the referenced thread.
