Holiday inflatables for everything now. Here’s one to fit today’s goal.

I often wonder what the people in China who are making all this stuff must think Americans are “really” like…lol

This is questionable taste public art, but it fit both categories today (scavenger hunt photo and public art).

I noticed this guy yesterday in Herndon and went back for the photo today. This is the house that puts out skeletons for almost every holiday and goes absolutely NUTS at Halloween. Come to think of it, this may be a repurposed pirate coat and beard from their Pirates of the Caribbean theme back in October!

All that AND a unicorn! I’d say that’s a magical trifecta!

Your panda is pretty stinking cute! I think you deserve two points!!

Cute isn’t the criteria — balance on 2 wheels (or 1 for the unicycle danger panda) is… although I’m pretty sure I could crash a tricycle given enough opportunity!

Left over from the Pandamonium craze in 2004, this one languishes at Wiehle-Reston East station. Purchased (probably at deep discount) by Comstock owner’s wife, this panda accompanies the dragon one I posted earlier to give a splash of color to this corner of the plaza. I could have used it for a ‘safe’ panda photo today, but call it art, instead as I was able to work myself into a danger panda pose over on drevil’s game.

    3/16/21 Danger Panda

Well, since brain surgery in 2017 I’ve struggled to find balance as I have double vision in certain quadrants of my visual field. But I do know how to ride sans hands and was happily doing that back and forth as I followed the same path as others practicing. The worst place for me to look while riding is up to my right – which of course, being right handed is what I need to do for an overhead danger panda. And because I was pedaling at the time, you can’t see part of my bike (i.e., the top tube). I pushed my boundaries for balance, didn’t crash doing it, checked it off my ‘accomplishments’ list, and raised a toast to Pete. In my book, that was a good day. I’m not in the “top 4” where an extra point will make the difference, so if this doesn’t count, I’m okay with it.

Also…. I’ve been WONDERING how you’ve managed to deal with this contest, Ricky. It’s been awesome! But it’s always seemed like it must be a lotta work. Now I know what your secret is…. Thanks Jo! [emoji38][emoji1360] Love you guys!

No idea how anyone would have anything to say about the points though. They’re not on the leaderboard, so [emoji848] is there a way to know what they are? Just curious. I’m not in it for the points, though I want enough of them for you guys to feel the love for this [emoji323][emoji76]GAME [emoji3531]
And haha a homemade patch from one of my most colorful FS friends would be awesome [emoji1]

Also Carol, I’d play if you got a game going after FS!

I like spring but I’m always sorry to see the end of Freezing Saddles

I saw that the other day but it was on the OTHER side of the road, and I thought, “I’ll look close another day.” Thanks that now I can zoom in on your photo and see the detail!

This is called Wormhole MOPW — It stands for “My Own Personal Wormhole”. It is a mulched paved path from my neighbor’s driveway down to the Reston paths. (The neighbor allows anyone who wants to use of this gem) Through the wormhole, I enter a world of green, with a lovely stream, zillions of birds and frogs and other critters. It’s the gateway to the 55+ miles of paved pathways throughout Reston. I can follow it (circuitously for sure) to the Wiehle-Reston Metro station or to one of our several lakes. These paths have been a sanity check for the last year for many people who live in and around Reston. There’s the occasional jerk, but by and large people are generous with space and encouraging words.

Near my house is an elementary school my son attended for one year. It’s an Arts & Science Magnet school and each year (prior to the pandemic) a different artist would work with students to create public art projects in the area. The school physical space is eye popping with different things to see as are local pools and underpasses. I’ve resisted posting photos of the artwork as my publicartfinder photo thinking I might “need” something close to home in case of inclement weather one day. But now we’re coming to the end of Freezing Saddles, weather is no longer horribly inclement, and today I flat ran out of time. So here is what I call the “Values Mural”, done by the last 6th grade class that was in residence in the before times.

They’re a little difficult to see because of the light angle, but they are:

    Left Side Right Side
    Compassion Courage
    Unity Friendship
    Creativity Sharing
    Kindness Perseverance

Huge thank you to both you and Jo, Drevil. I’m willing and happily able to throw in some $$ via Venmo to you to help subsidize cost of patches.

I’m like Carol – this is the challenge that got me out every day. It also kept me up late at night wondering what the next day’s challenge would be. Then it cavorted through my dreams as the many routes I ride were trying to match up with the desired target. I found myself looking at everything differently and thinking, “I need to remember THAT in case drevil asks for it.” Of course, today when it was Christmas stuff I couldn’t remember WHERE I’d last seen them. Fortunately my riding partner, LeftyLaura, is very patient. VERY patient.

Carol, if you want I will text you random stuff to find. Not sure where you’d post it, but I’m happy to do that!

    3/15/21 Christmas Decorations

Our area has pretty strict HOA provisions so I wasn’t sure what I’d find. I know I’ve seen a couple of holdovers as recently as last week but the nice weather this past weekend might have ‘finished’ them off. So this is what I found — Icicles still hanging in Fox Mill area of Herndon.

I have so enjoyed hunting for public art and seeing what’s around the area. To thank all of you, here’s my gift to you — a Public Art bike tour of Leesburg.

It is *possible* to get there without a car, but makes for a long day. To do that you take the Silver Line to Wiehle-Reston East and hop on the W&OD going west. (Hopefully sometime in 2021 Phase II will open and this will be easier). It’s 16 miles to Leesburg from Reston via the W&OD. If you’re driving out to start this, I recommend parking at the Rt. 28 trailhead parking lot or the Belmont Ridge Rd. trailhead parking lot. This route starts at Belmont Ridge – but it’s easy to add some miles by starting further east.

If you start at Belmont Ridge Rd, the route is 13.4 miles round trip.

    Enjoy!

You just didn’t look far enough. On the far side of Isaac Newton Square over by NovaLabs there are some fruit trees next to the golf course. :-)
